Got a 2001 VTS, been advised to change the timing belt tensioner.

Seen this on ebay, does it look right?

"looks" right.

why not buy a kit, comes with tensioners.

I've got a receipt for the cambelt which was done not that long ago before I bought the car, however the belt seems to have 'moved' sideways. You can now see clean bits on the cam where the belt used to be. Am thinking it could be the tensioner being crap, am not sure it was changed.

Could be the tensioner but more likely the water pump bearings , try to push and pull it from side to side (with belt off), any play will cause the cambelt to move to the outside of the cam sprocket.

Arse. I can see this turning into a full replacement!

I was after a nice easy fix.
