Hey guys and girls.

I've just agreed to buy a 2002 VTR in electric blue (yeah I don't know the colour, I'm a Saxo noob haha). It's got a potentially blown headgasket so I'll be sorting it in my spare time (HG, cambelt, water pump, etc etc).
Agreed to purchase it for £125.

By no means a fully-fledged proficient mechanic, but I can do a few bits and pieces. I've got a socket set at least, and a big f*ck off breaker bar.

Bit of background - currently working as an estate agent but about to change careers quite dramatically.
Daily is a 2012 Smart Fortwo, 0.8 CDi that's been remapped. Great on fuel, sensible daily etc but I've been getting the itch to buy something fun, cheap, thrashable and trackable.

My best mate is an ex-racing driver who gives driver training/tuition so it's a hopefully easy toe in the water with open track days etc and a bit of cheap fun.

Hello all. :y:

Welcome!

Why did you ex-racing driver mate let you buy a Smart Fortwo?

Thanks!

Because he used to have one too and they are great town cars. Convenient, easy to park anywhere, really good on fuel.

I used to absolutely hate them until I took theirs for a spin.
Don't knock them till you've tried 'em.
If you have and hate them, that's cool too!

To be honest the early ones were horrendous. Mine being a 2012 is a nicer place to be and drives very nicely too.

Welcome to the forum! Interesting choice of car... (the smart that is!)

You've come to the right place for help with headgasket & timing belt.
