View Full Version : need help with my steering rack boot

Hi,
my vts failed its mot needing the centre steering rack boot ... I have tried to replace it but noticed the T55 torque screw is rounded and wont come off ?
Any ideas how else you can get the boot on ?:panic:
any ideas ?

get a tool that as you screw into it creates a thread so as you are turning to loosen it creates a thread and tightens into it. you could grab ya self a set of TORX EXTRACTOR kit about £10 or less or you could use flat headed screwdriver in it but risk fking it up more. Extractor best best or a bigger size torque and trying to remove.

Impact driver might get it if you've got the room to swing a mallet.

this may sound stupid but I have the new boot was thinking could I cut the boot down the middle slide it on and glue it back together so it dosent leak the grease etc ?

No, but they do make zip up cv boots and gators. You may be able to find one the correct size.
If it was me I would weld a nut onto the head of the Torx bolt, the heat + added torque you can use with a spanner should shift it.

got it sorted welded a bolt and it turned
an absolute bastard of a job getting the boot on the metal to cable tie it ...
was at It for a good hour :panic:
