Elm327 obd2

Hi,
I've purchased a Saxo 1.1i with tu1 m/z engine (year 1999).
I need to make a diagnosis/reset of faulty ECU so I buy an elm327 device from Amazon but cannot communicate with ecu.
Someone knows what kind of elm327 is good for my saxo?

Iirc the saxo pre 2001 didn't have full obd so possibly no cheap obd will work unless you get yourself a lexia.
