what setup have you got already? these are both only basic headunits.

ive got a 3 yr old alpine and to get the same spec from this years range, your looking at 270 from Car Audio Direct which is the Alpine CDA-9855R.

if your planning on expanding your system if not already got a medium setup then you either want this head unit Alpine CDA-9855R or going for someone else like Kenwood or Pioneer who offer more features at the same price as Alpine.

I love Alpine and have had 4 of their units but its more about the quality and not the features/pound

go for this unit mate... http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4503.html

IMO, its one of the best around at the min, ive got it and it has loads of features etc, plus all alpine units look exactly the same.... plus the sound quality is amazing

To be honest mate, jsut love their headunits, like the blue and just think they stand out.

Ended up just buying the better £180 one with direct iPod link.

One question- Does it HAVE to be an ipod, or does any MP3 Played plug straight in???

Cheers

His got some kind of Alpine fetish for some reason. After a lot of talking round I think I have manged to make him realise thats theres other better sounding speakers and amps around for the smae money as Alpine.

I never recomend people spend a lot of money on a headunit unless there running a high end system as theres simply no need. A <£100 headunit will do more then enough for £99% of people. All that you really get spending a bit more is flashy displays and fuctions that you will never need.

If I was going to spend £100 on a headunit I would either buy a second hand Pioneer P77MP as you can pick them up for around this type of money and they have the advantage of 6v Preouts and Burr Brown D?A converter. (I have had my P77 for 3 years now and I will not change it) Its a classy looking unit that will not look dated in a couple of years or I would buy a new Pioneer DEH-30MP. For £90 this unit has every thing you need for a good sounding amped system.

Yeh Dave youve made me see sense on every front apart from the headunit, i always wanted alpine and everyone sees it, so alpine it is.

but im deciding whether to go for a stealthbox and 10" Sub with a ncie amp and amped fornt comps.

OR Genisis 6x9, really good amp and front comps.

Either way i now relaise a good amp is essential and will make a good install great.

you crazy boy... you spend all this money on making your car your own then when it comes to ICE you ignore a WHOLE range of headunits because of the name :P

with regard to sound is it pure quality you're after or just looking for something to annoy pedestrians with?

Spend £750 on a 7" screen at I can sit in a small parked up car to watch?

Hmm not thanks for that money I can get a 42" Plasma screen and sit on a comfy sofa in my nice warm house watching it!

Should be here Tuesday, anyway.

Can i ONLY use an Ipod, or will any MP3 player work?

DaveWard

If you have bought the direct iPod link one then it will only work with a iPod. If you want to use a non iPod mp3 player then you will need to buy the add on AUX in lead.
