Hello

Have 1.6 VTR, on Tuesday car wouldn't start just dash lights only. Replaced starter motor and started straight away and worked at least a dozen 1st time until Friday.
Wouldn't start just one click from starter motor and key light started flashing. Removed battery and reconnected and it started. Got home turned off and wouldn't start. Removed battery, started fine and took off immobiliser.
Now it doesn't always work by disconnecting battery the first time, usually have to disconnect and reconnect 3-5 times before it starts, when it does start it's with little effort and as normal.
I've checked all connections are secure from starter motor and battery and it's obviously not the immobiliser as it's been removed.
This morning I got in the car and it started first time which I was amazed by, however put in gear and went forward and car cut out and took ages to start again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry should add the battery light occasionally flickers on and off but only a few times.

Had a similar problem, I know you said you checked connections on the starter motor but may be worth double checking as one of the cables (power feed from battery to starter ) had come loose at the eye you bolt onto the starter and finally snapped off ending up with the immobiliser light coming on weirdly at the same time the alternator also blew and melted. Check that cable and get it repaired if it's loose at the eye

Another thing that i noticed when the cable was loose was that the fuel pump would not prime unless that cable was held in place / repaired.

Might be a stupid question, but, have you tried a new battery?
