View Full Version : Fuel pump doesn't work

Hey, im new to this forum im needing some help.

I have a Saxo 1997 1.1i.

Some time ago my fuel pump stoped working, couldnt start the car. I've managed to make a jump wire from the lighter (not sure) and made it work with direct energy and a switch, i was in a rush so that was the best i did at the time.
Several months trhough i've been pluging in the original connector and the pump sometimes worked, sometimes not ,that could be a matter of minutes or weeks when i must switch connectors.

I've checked the fuse box its ok
Changed the puel pump $$$
I've changed the Fuel injection main relay.
Pump still doesn't work.

Today (several months later) i picked my multimeter just to discover that no current is passing through the F9 fuse.

This is a pdf wich i follow diagram 4.

I'm tired to have to turn the switch on and of when i use my car, and also concerns me about security issues.

Any advice? should i spend money on a electrician, or its a easy fix that i should do?

Just looked at the wiring diagram. Try bypassing the inertia switch and see if that gives you power at the fuel pump fuse everytime you switch ignition on. If you have replaced the fuel pump relay then can only be the inertia switch, fuel management ecu or a bad earth on the pump.

Just looked again, the ignition coil shares the same feed as the fuel pump. So if you have a spark everytime you crank, then must be a bad earth on the pump.

The ground wire on the pump works already checked. Fuses are ok and reatached the relay.

It used to work sometimes but now doesnt work at all so maybe a loose wire/bad connection?
This is frustrating im running out of ideas.

Turn the ignition on. Then check for 12v at pin 3 on the coil pack. If you have this then fuse 9 should have voltage and the pump will run if it's brand new and has a good clean earth.

According to diagram 4, do you mean to check for 12 volt on blue wire (3) on the ignition coil (36) ?

I've cheched for 12V on the 3 blue wires on the coil pack and it has (+).

Hi,

I have bit similar issue on at the moment. I created this earlier www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=474565 but there is not much info that would help you.

I'm away from my car 5days and can't do much before next weekend, but my situation is somewhat similar.

I have measured that there is connection from ignition coil pin 3 to my fuel pump.

So now on that I think it is different than yours, so this is asumption, that I don't have 12v on that ignition coil pin 3. Your thread was though helpful, Will look bit more on the electronics shematics what could be wrong.

Would it be possible for you to measure like I did, from fuel pump blue to fuse box F9 with beeper or ohm meter and then from from Fusebox F9 to ignition coil pin3.

As your car is running it would seem to me that somewhere between there the connector is bad or lead broken.

Mine is modified rallycar 1.6 VTS so not 100% sure what is original on mine.

Okay if you have power at the coil pack then fuse f9 should have power and should be sending it to the fuel pump. If it's not reaching the pump then you have a voltage drop in the wire. Do a continuity check between d2 on the engine fuse box and pin 2 on the fuel pump. If you have a good continuity then the pump will run.

Mine was the same put a new pump in I did no problems since
