Hi,I'm a bit confused on what's going on here with the starter motor wiring, pictures to follow:

So,there's one small wire coming from the loom and the main positive coming from the battery all normal, but then there seems to be a ground wire connected to the same positive terminal that altough has been cut off for some reason, further back you can see a black wire that's exposed and not sure where that comes from but might be the factory loom,am I right in assuming that all is needed is to connect an actual working ground to the starter motor? If so would I use the terminal at the top (third picture) that was unused? Many thanks.

Positive, negative and remote, isn't there one negative in the bulb head or do you know where the Black cable comes from?

there's no negative terminal on the starter, that's the body of it as its bolted to the engine which is earthed.

big black cable is the permanent live from the battery, this can often have a link continuing on to the alternator, OR be a separate wire from the battery.

just looks like someone has been bodging, is the alternator cable present there? that may be the cut black wire, which if its meant to connect to the stater could be the bodging.

Thanks for the help, honestly have no idea if the alternator cable might be the black one,I'll have to trace the cut wire back from the loom and to where is connected,I will be removimg the engine in the next few days for other work so I'll check that cable as well and report back.
The car did have an intermittent problem when starting as it would immediately switch off sometimes if gas pedal not depressed and kept up the revs for a few seconds, might be related or might not.

Was able to get ahold of the Haynes manual and from what I can make of it from the positive of the starter there are connected two wires, one goes to the battery and one goes to the alternator and they're black (this one would be the cut wire I discovered),and one other wire which should be blue that goes to the ignition switch,so only 3 wires present.

How was my alternator charging without that positive from the starter lol? could still read 14 something though, that was from the cigarette lighter, never measured from the battery,oh shit.

that badly made crimp was probably barely holding on till you disturbed it.

So,traced all the wire back in the loom and that black cut wire is indeed the positve usually connected to the M8 terminal on the alternator.

As you can see from the picture below the black wire is connected, covered by a heatshrink (I guess this is from factory correct?) to 4 small blue wires coming from the driver side loom and also to a redish wire that goes to a 30AMP fuse a relay and 2 cut wires again, this are all connected together apart from the ground going back in the loom.

Red wire I'm talking about is near the black one on the right:

Heatshrink removed:

Red wire goes to this lot:

Any idea of what this lot purpose is? Only thing that I know has been disconnected and could have something to do with this is the hot air pump (sometimes called mistakenly EGR) usually bolted to the front of the engine, basically would like to know if this is of any use otherwise I'll remove the wires, any help would be much appreciated.

Btw this is a 3 plug engine.

Why can't I see thes photo's? I think this may be rellated to my currebt issue with my 2003 VTS. Only has 2 wires on starter motor and no communication with ECU, Also no spark or fuel pump priming. Could you email me these photo's? keegan_2k6@hotmail.com
