It's probably my own incompetence but ordering Saxo parts seems to be quite a complicated affair as most parts seem to have at least a couple of variants. I was wondering if there is any way of tracking down the right parts via the car's VIN number as this would mean I could buy stuff on-line (I'm after new brake pads and discs plus a timing belt kit). Any ideas? I'd appreciate it

If it's a 2003 model you're well in the clear.
Buying things should be pretty obvious as you'd simply order the "latest" version for your model.
The ONLY way you can do it by VIN is to use something like servicebox or go to the dealer for part numbers.

Thanks, I get that in most cases I can work out part numbers from either Year or registration but sometimes 'Car Parts for Less' for example have a long list of different brake parts and sizes. I have now registered with this site:
http://service.citroen.com/pages/index.jsp (I now have an imaginary French service garage ) and I can access all technical details and part numbers specific to my car via my V.I.N number. Thousand apologies if this is old news...

usually just looking at your vehicle will identify what parts you need, checking size of brake disc or brand of caliper and shape of pad etc.
with the age of these vehicles and the number of them non standard you often never know what a previous owner may have fitted.
