Hi.

i have a trailer with a 3 stud axle which has a snapped torsion bar. i can get hold of a 4 stud axle.

with the brakes and back plates removed, will the 3 stud drum fit the 4 stud stub axle?

thanks

Richard.

No it won't fit. The nut will bottom out on the thread because the bearing on a 3 stud drum/wheel bearing is much thinner.

Cant you just get 2 wheels for the 4 stud axle?

i could, but it will increase the cost to the point i may as well look for another trailer.

ideally i could get away with a torsion bar, but they don't seem to come up for sale without being attached to the axle.

could i get away with turning a spacer up on the lathe?

its only a trailer.

Yes you could make a spacer to fit. As long as the bearing gets torqued correctly.

just for info.

yes you can fit a 3 stud hub on a 4 stud axle, as long as you have the baking plates and make a spacing washer to account for the thinner bearings.

:y:

handy to know if for whatever reason someone needs to fit 3 stud drums - similar to your scenario.
What was the thickness of the spacer?
