Hey ppl,

I am currently 18 and am taking a year out to get some money behind me and buy a car before i go uni. I am curently looking for a full time job. So I was talking to my parents and they said that they wanted £65 per week keep!!!!! that near enough £3500 when i only earn about £12k. Is it me, or is that wayyyy to high?

cheers

Tom

I dont pay poop. i am a student though.

My sister took a gap year and paid (i think) between £50 - £100 per month.
Remind your parents you are trying to save to fund yourself through uni. tell them you rather live off yourself than ring them up telling them that you need bailing out because you have no money.

Peace.

Its too high to charge you that much if your trying to save with the amount you earn.

I pay £100 a month but luckily for me my parents pay it into a savings account for me. I used to hate giving the cash away but now ive seen sense its actually good to know i have got some money saved for the future, when my birthday comes im gonna up it myself to £200+

im 16, 1st year apprentice spark, bout £150 most weeks. Or up to £400 if i dont feel lazy and do homers or OT.

I got a whole year rent free.

Spent wages on Motocross and beer and saved £60 a week into an account for car.

Seen perfect car, bought it, mum lent me 2grand.

So i now pay her £50 a week to pay off my debt.

im 19, im on 12.5k P/A as a HCA, ive payed 150pounds a month since my second ever paycheck at 16, yes takehome is between 900-1100quid a month i also pay 99pound insurance a month, 123pound car finance, and about 100pound petrol a month, all adds up!

150 is good, considering i get my washing ironing, food, etc all done for me.

And also, Giving parents upkeep teaches you to look after your money, and get used to paying out things, its helped me alot, i wont be so shocked when i know i have to pay out masses amounts on a Mortgage, my friend is 19, all of his wages are his, he has 2 credit cards, he spends on it.. daddy pays it, his phone, daddy pays it, his dad even bought his car, insurance, IMO he will get a serious shock when he has £500+ going out of his bank account a month. Welcome to the real world!

I don't pay anything at the moment. Reason being my sister has gone to uni and gets all her rent payed for her. Just because i have chosen a different path in life shouldn't mean that i am penalised for it.

When i start to earn the big bucks me and my mate are buying a flat or something anyway. I wanna get out there as in a few years time theres not a hope for first time buyers.

offer to take on a bill instead of paying them lodge they might like that idea better as it would show more responseabibilty you may get away with paying less than 65 per week this way aswell

Im 19 and paying £30/week to my parents, i am the only one who uses the net so i also pay the £20 for that/month.

My takehome at the moment is around £300, most weeks about £360 with overtime, cant wait for full pay. But with my excess cash im saving for my house deposit with the missus.
