i know a lot of people slag off 6x9s but im new to the whole car scene and i jus wanted a set of cheap speakers to start off so i thought id just get that out the way :)

my 6x9s are ripspeed 40rms and 80peak and im running a standard headunit...

ive been told i cant amp these because it wont have the correct something to put the amp in?

so basically i need a new headunit to draw more power to them yes?

firstly if i get a headunit that gives out more than 40w rms power will this blow these 6x9's and my standard front speakers?

also i can break into my own car with a coathanger within 20 seconds through the gap in the door seal thing, if you know what i mean :D any idea's in preventing this?

thanks for reading luke

For the coat hanger.

Yeh mate, not rocket sceince.

either leave NO valuables in the car as generally people will steal whats in it, due to the hassle of hot wiring etc..

Or fit a decent alarm.

OR get doors de locked and de handled and poppers fitted.

i dont think you can get a headunit that has a 40watt rms when you see a headunit sayin 4x40 watt it is max power the headunit would only be puting about 16 rms. with some speakers you can power it with double ie s50's are 55 rms il'l be running them at 100 rms i couldnt say if powering your 6x9s over 40rms would be ok but if you are only goin to be running it off headunit it should be ok but you might what a 2nd answer befor you buy any thing as im new to ice myself

don't bother with 6x9's, if your wanting to do things right then you want a decent headunit, a good set of compenents amped, and then a sub.
the headunit is one of the most important things in a sound system as it is like your brain. it runs everything.
my girlsfriend had a Goodmans headunit in her car when she got it and it wired a sound system up and it sounded OKish, then i got a decent Kenwood headunit and now it sound mint, nearly as good as mine
