i'm unsure of this....
what do you guys think of driving the next day after a night out drinking and getting in early hours...
i used to be really careful and not drive at all the next day even if i had only had 1 or 2 and only been out for a few hours...
but now after a night out with heavy drinking and coming home 4 o'clock ish, i now drive later that day...(talking late afternoon like 3 o'clock ish) only done this a few times over the past few weeks so if you think it's wrong dont slate me, just thought i'd get people views on this.

I don't usually do much heavy drinking anyway.. but I suppose if I got absolutely bladdered the night before I would lay off the driving for a while unless I needed to get somewhere urgently..

tbh....i do it a fair bit, but driving my work (the pub) back home which is a mile away, i hear cops quite often ask for breathaliser though in earlier mornings to catch people still over the limit after a heavy night out

you still can be over the limit the next day.depend on how i feel really if i still feel pissed i wont.Even if i feel ok ill still wait till later on to drive.
by 3oclock you sould be alright, as most of the drink is out of your system

Yeah baz is totally right about the police..
They check morning drivers and use the breathaliser.. usually on a saturday or sunday morning..

ye used to be really careful and if i had even 1 the night before i wouldnt drive the next day but since my 18th and now going out almost every weekend i seem to not bother with it and still drive the next day.. if i got in at like 4 and been heavy drinking i wouldnt drive at say 9 ... i would wait til after 12 at least as long as i had a good few hours sleep as well.
i would never drink and drive the same day even if i only had a half... thats just my view...

I'll admit I have been out drinking on a work night. Went out about 8 and didn't return home until 2.30am. Got up for work at 6 and then drove at 7.
I would of been still way over the limit. My advice is if you have been drinking until early hours, best to have something to eat in morning and don't drive until after lunch.

You would be amazed what a good breakfast and a glass of water will do for you in the morning after a night of heavy drinking.. the two best things for you to sober up ;)

exactly that dude :Y:
not worth the risk.
I've been breathelised and it was enough to cease any ideas about driving the morning after even a moderate one.

i didnt really drink beofre my 18th as i look really young (16 ish) and i could never get into any places and drinking on the streets and parks didnt interest me lol... and on my 18th (had stupid amounts of drink) my mate gave me some really good advice.... after a night out when you get in have a pint of water and some toast (or some kind of food)
great advice always do this now and i never feel ill the next day and definatly sorts your head out..and helps to sober up

A good rule of thumb is for each unit of alcohol you drink, u dont drive for an hour, Which means if you have a really heavy night, driving is off limits for over 24hrs

It depends how i feel. If ive gone out and got hammered i would try not to drive unless i need to (like go to work etc)
I try to leave it a while even if i didnt get hammered, just eat a decent meal and drink something to wake me up etc

j20's and coke are the way forward when your out but not drinking alcohol also redbull :)
night's out when your not drinking are shocking tho. Really boring!
me and a few mates were thinking of sorting something out so when we go out we take it in turns driving because taxi's cost sooo much.
but i dont really want to because i know the night i have to drive it'll be a good night and i'll end up missing out on the fun because i'm sober and sensible lol

I know some friends who go out every friday pay-day and whack most of their money on booze and kebabs and chips!
It's stupid.. fair enough you want to go out and have a good time.. but spending near enough all your wages on one night out is ludacris..
We get paid monthy aswell.. that's the worst thing :(
Jonny_H
1st October 2006, 23:15
i do think it's a waste of money but i have only recently turned 18 and i really enjoy going out... plus i do overtime during the week to make sure i earn extra to pay for my nights out, that way it's not coming out of my wage and i wont be short of money for anything else.
started doing this just after my 18th when i realised going out every weekend is going to cost a bomb and i'm going to end up spending all my money on nights out lol, so i started doing o/t so the money i spend is extra ontop of my normal pay.

spent too much on my 18th but it was a big thing and 14 of us went to a different town as a special event type thing for my bday....good night...
just after that i didnt go out for a few weeks (not sure why just didnt)
and last month or so have been going out for a few on fri and then a proper night out on the Sat... but like i said at the moment i am enjoying it and the money isnt bothering me that much, as i see it as i am working extra to pay for that night out.

1 unit goes out of your system an hour so if you have double vodka redbull that 1 alone is for hours as its 4 units, a pint is 2 units so be very careful as i got pulled up the night after the night out and was just under the limit...... i shit myself thinking i avent even drunk tonight but hey i was lucky if i got pulled 2 0r 3 hours earlier i may not have been so lucky, stick to the rule and ul be ok

im exactly the same. I went out with the lads the other week got hammered and had a great time, but the day after i looked in my wallet and thought whats the point? Since ive turned 18, ive been clubbing about 3 times whereas a lot of my mates go all the time. I prefer to sit at a pub/bar and have a couple of drinks.

I go out Every Thursday and have a few, not to many but have a couple!! Up and 7 and driving to work at 7.45 !!
I normally drive the next day after a heavy session, but i always have some water when i get it and some food in the morning, and i usually dont wake up till early afternoon anyway ! I always feel ok when i drive the next day.
I normally go out and i will have 1 pint and drive ! But it does affect different people in different ways !

I'm weary of this too, but usually just leave it till about 1-2 in the afternoon then I'll go out, if neccessary...
Think as someone else said it works out you lose a unit an hour, and eating etc helps...

Simple solution is if you know you have to drive the following day you just take it easy on the old bevvies.

Don't they do those DIY breathaliser things at Halfords? Basically tell you if you've had too much or not?
Duno if I would trust anything from there though...

i have done it a few times before but only when i have had a few, not been totally wasted! i just dont think its worth the risk! i heard somewhere that for every alcholic drink you have it takes an hour to get out of your system! dont know how true that is!

There we go, the rule has been seconded! Although theres a little under a unit of alcohol in a shot (25ml) of vodka, so in a double vodka red bull there are 2 units, ur average pint (5 - 5.5% abv) is between 2.5 - 3units.

Iv'e only once ever consumed beer and drove the same day, that was at the last meet... but then again i dident drive for like 6 hours after a pint of beer and i knew i wouldent be. I dont make a habbit of it and i dont think i ever will... pointless really. As for drinking the morning after... i think most if not everyone has done it once..

I won't touch a drop if i'm driving - not even a glass with sunday lunch or anything like that. As for driving the next day - i've often wondered....
If I share a bottle of wine with my bf of an evening, and get up to drive home at 7:00, is that "over the limit"? - i doubt it, but it sometimes worries me as i'm not the best for holding drink *ahem*

if i go out i'll have a couple of pints at first then soft drinks for the rest of the evening. been breathalised getting into my car after coming out of the pub once and it was fine.
as for driving the next day ive done it quite a few times after being twatted the night before, always try and leave it as long as possible though. i blame mcdonalds for not serving breakfast after 10.30 it forces us into a moral dilema!!!
