View Full Version : Hi Specs fitted today!

Managed to get a dry day and got these fitted. Look the business but still need time to bed in as there pretty unresponsive just now!! mind you I've only done a mile and a half since fitted!
Took a while to fit as the old disks were not for budging, but some gentle hammer knocks and they came good
The bit that took the most time was the bloody Hi Spec hoses which are a touch too long and were catching on the wheels during full lock, sometime later and some cable ties at the ready, we managed to attach the cables to the strut to keep them clear as there wasn't much else to attach them to. It;s not shown in the pics, we only found out when the wheels went back on!
Also pics of the drivers CV joint, by the looks of it, it's humped!!
What you think?

Be careful with cable ties. Its annoying if they cut through the hose.
They look smart. Disks look tiny behind 17s though!

Thats the 285mm disks too! imagine how the normal disks looked!

If i still had them, i probably would have

sort the hoses! i do not recomend having them tied like that to the strut! AS THEY WILL RUB on the cable tie etc... you should be able to adjust the cable so it does not rub on the wheel! either that or ring hispec and get a shorter set of hoses made up

they look pretty good. i think i may have to get me a big brake kit.
shouldnt the groves run the other way though? in other words the disks need switching over? not sure though.

Yeah I know whatyou mean about the hoses! There from GS Motorsport and are supposed to be for the 285mm Hi spec kit, but there too long! Will email GS Motorsport and ask if they do a smaller set.
We thought about the grooves on the disks but when we looked at them and it seemed it wouldn't matter what way the disks went on, they'd still face the same way. Does it make much difference what way the grooves go??

Itsafastworld85,
What size are those disks and what are those lovely looking black wheels you've got, they 15's?
Did you have a problem with the Hi Spec hoses or are you using a different kind?

i dont actually know. but if you put the disk from the drivers side on the passenger side and vice versa, then the grooves would face the other way.
it might not matter or you may have them the correct way already.
maybe someone on here will know?

THe grooves are supposed to face a certain direction...
rear of car \\\\\ front of car.
ie, the grooves go with the direction of rotation.
The hi-spec hoses are too long... I had the same trouble with mine. I plan to get some new hoses fab'd up which dont use the banjo conenctor and come straight out of the caliper sideways, like the originals.

disks are 283mm
wheels 15" pro race 1.2 in pug/cit offset
hoses are the SHORTER ones.
i got them direct from hispec as they are £15 a hose i think. you can have them made to any length you require.

whole set up was fmps!
but the 2 piece disks are hi specs
ring them and ask a i believe they have to be custom made. but they will have the pug/cit details on system :D:afro: :fcuk:

im sure they'll be alright for a bit but just change them asap.
they just wont work to their full potential i think.

surely the fricton use on the disk in the wrong way could damage the surafce of the disk?> as you would be bedding the disk in with the friction from the rotational mass going in one direction and then in another.

doubt it. its not that serious. its only the grooves that run the wrong way. its not like the disk wont work. the grooves are to help disperse heat and promote even wear. As long as you don’t leave them the wrong way round for too long then they should be fine. but the pads may need to be bedded in again. i certainly wouldn’t leave them on the wrong way for 50 miles though. i would get them changed the next day if it were me.

Hi
We are glad you are happy with them and we are more than happy supply everyone in the club with these great oversized products :) They really do look fantastic.
The brake hoses are an issue though. We are unsure why they appear so long and are sorting that :)

look mint, bet you can stop on a 50p.
how long did it take you to do?
ali
10th October 2006, 14:33
They are indeed the billet 4's. Took about 3 hours to do, purely due to the old disks taking an age to come of!!
If your thinking of doing it make sure you 1st put the disks on the right way!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/alidroy/smiley9.gif and 2nd have some copperslip at hand, will save you having to take the pads out later on to apply it, which is what I'll be doing tomorrow morning aswell as swapping the disks over!
