i got a letter this morning from my old insurer.....

"incident date: 02/09/06

we have been made aware of an incident involving your vehicle. please contact the office on 0*********** to discuss the matter in full."

i phoned them and apparently someone has claimed against my registration number for me cutting someone up and causing them to have a collision with another vehicle. but there are no details on the other vehicle.

im sure i would remember if someone had crashed from me cutting someone up!!

is this sounding a bit dodgy to you considering i just changed insurance companies.

weird?!?!

Ask the police, the dipstick should have called them.
Ask for photographic evidence of a crash
Time of crash, where the crash was etc
etc
etc

Not sure what this person can do to be honest.

Alright mate, basically someone would have given your reg to your ex insurer as the vehicle was on cover with them at the time of the alleged accident. you best bet is to get as much info from your old insurer in regards to the third party, ie vehilce make model reg, location of accident etc, if they have sent you a claimform just return it saying you weren't there. Letter sounds like a standard one, bit like the ones we send out. who is you ex insurer???

the third party only needs to inform the police if there is injury adsayer, and you can report a claim up to three years after the accident date!!! they could have the wrong reg by 1 didgit..... many possiblitys to why they have come to you

ask them to get the third party to confirm the make model and description of your car, a description of yourself and ask if they have any witnesses, also ask how they got your insurance details. If it dont match they will throw it out, i have loads like this everyday
