hey, i havnt got any mods on my saxo atm, but im thinking about doing some stuff. I was just wondering what things do u have to declare for insurance? is it only big things or just absolutly everything thats been done? (eg rear window tint, new fuel cap and small stuff like that?)
dont know alot about this and sorry if this has been answered b4 or its obvious lol. cheers.

Its best to declare everything, you have to remember that the insurance company is a business aswell so they dont like to pay out :)

everything needs to be declared, everytime you do something to your car give them a quick ring, or do it beforehand to check if it will effect your premium :)

most little things wont make a difference to your premium but its best to tell them otherwise they are fully within their rights not to pay out if you need to claim.

It's safer to declare because as SAxolad said, they don't like paying out, and if you crash and you they have to pay out, they could turn round and say "is that a 'insert mod here', you didn't say you had that we would have to bring your price up to insure that"
I hate insurance companies!

It's better to be safe than sorry...

And like somebody has said, give them a call before you have a modification to see what the effect on your premium is. I did the silly mistake of having a duplex fitted to one of my old Saxo's and then told the insurance company about it when I got home and they voided my policy :-(

The policy wording says 'Any alteration from factory standard to increase either performance or appearance'

so basically ANY alteration to the car from standard

That doesn't work mate, imagine if you battard your whole front passenger side, then all of a sudden there is a fresh perfect standered wheel.
If you lower it and the suspension is nakered you will struggle to get it put the old one back on. How will you raise a torsion bar if you diff that up too?

I think most things should be declared but theres a point where you can draw the line, things like lowering torsion bar, blacking badges, painting....wheels and stuff liek that is sort of a piss take with declaring, i wouldn't declare stuff like that but obviously they can do you on it and it's not like they just don't pay out, its a criminal record. Not good.

try reading the sticky CLEARLY labelled " should i declare my modifications " that will explain all in there.

But the simple answer is YES you have to declare every modification unless your insurer states otherwise

Lowering your car is possibly one of the biggest things insurance companies can do you on, other than things like turbos and engine mods. Lowering your car changes the handleing ability of your dramatically and even though it does inhance the performance, insurance companies will see this as a BIG no no and not pay out.

Like you said maybe small things like spraying wheels or badges will be ok but anything more you have to declare things or in theory your driving with no insurance, and if you were to crash into me with no insurance id eat your testicals!!!!!!!!

insurance companies can & will do you on anything, they dont want to pay out so they will look for any minor mod you havent told them about!

Haha, don't even know how I came across this now, sorry chaps. And Brett69, even if you drive a multicoloured citrus, none of your interior is declared so when YOU drive into ME while doing handbrakes on a roundabout, i'll do more than eat them!

Sorry.

Just as a not on this thread as I know its old people who say "i'll just put it back to standard".... try doing that when the police impound your car as they have every right to at the scene of an accident!

why would they do that if you can get a recovery service truck in a sufficient amount of time?

i agree with not having todeclare that you have painted the badges,

i rang my insurance and told them i had modded the grill, tcut rear badges, put smoked rears on, added sax-p stickers.

and they put up my premium by £8.80. so for that price you may aswell declare everything even as little and pointess as it seems.

It is a legal requirement to contact the police in the event of an RTA, especially when someone is injured or the person at fault cannot be determined. Both vehicles should be left where they are until the police arrive and ask you to move them. If it is a serious incident they will make drawings and have scenes of crime investigate the crash. If the officer suspects that are car may have caused an accident through being dangerous/un-roadworthy (modified vehicles are a prime target for this speculation) the car will be investigated which can result in being taken.

Most minor incidents aren't reported to the police and nothing realy ever comes of them BUT even if someone hits you and drives off, if they contact the police and you do not, you will recieve a fine for failure to report an accident.

I know someone who had their car impounded after a crash for investigation which resulted in a non-payment by the insurance as he had not declared the mods and an assesor was able to view the car before it was returned to the owner. My next door neighbor was fined for failure to report after a guy hit him, he didn't get the car details and there wasn't much damage but the other guy contacted the police to say he thought he hit a car and they came to check the vehicle for damage

i think the smoked lights are the only thing that put up your premium.

so say someone hasnt declared all his "extras" on his saxo......if its been lowered and has alloys and exhaust, how much you think would the premium go up?
