Anybody know of any good insurance companys that do good prices when you go on your parents insurance. As my car might be off the road soon for awhile and my moms insurance runs out so she was thinking of taking the new policy out as me as a named driver on it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Elephant, Diamond, Bell, Admiral etc (basically the Admiral group) like named drivers. I always put my mum on mine anyway but last year decided to put my housemate on so we could move each others cars legally and although she was only 20 like me it brought it down £20. When I said I had use of another car because I'm on her policy it brought it down another £20

They seem to like named drivers and the more people on the policy, the cheaper it is in my experience. Should think it should be the same for your mum putting you on her policy

I think it does vary between insurance companies because for some reason, adding one of my parents on my policy put the price up :-S

But if you're going under your mum (or dads) policy as a named driver, then expect to still pay high premiums when and if you do take out your own policy because you can't build up any no claims discount if you're a "named driver" on somebody elses policy? Is that right...

With companys like direct line everyone (named and policy drivers) build up no claims on some policys.

I was just wondering what companies do a good rate as to being on parents insurance. As alot base it on the highest risk factor. Which would be me in the policy.

Im with elephant at the moment. And i put a parent on my insurance and it took it down 600 in my first year. From 2400 on a vtr to 1800. But then if i put my dad on it it went up £50.

Thanks for the replies people. Will havea look around.

for my vts it was more xpensive if i insured it in my mums name and was named as a driver (not sure why)

but when i had a 1.25 fiesta it was in her name and i was paying £480. was 17 at the time as well :)
