hey went to see a furio today, really like it.. but a quick question.
it had like rust colored stuff in places on the silver bit which has the citroen badge on it.. covers all the funky engine bits underneath i think... but i really dont know.
erm... is this something that should be worried about, can be cleaned or what?
thanks for any help,
matt

If you mean the rocker cover then thats nothing to worry about and wont affect the car at all unless you get a major case of it..
EDIT: my rocker cover is full of rust lol

yep, always seen on saxo rocker covers , just use "Kurust" and respray the cover,
also check rust on the sump as that can be a problem if too excessive, if not treat as above

nah the only rust was really on the rocker cover you mention...
also.. whilst im here, the bloke who owned it before me had put an air filter on it, but left all the pipe for the original one hanging about? is that ok to do, will it cause problems?
finally, when the clutch was not engaged the car made a slight sqeaky noise when just left turning over.. the bloke sed it was sumthing in the clutch, a ball bearing dried up or summthing??? was he lying to me or is this a reasonable explaination?
(sorry i am the furthest away from a mechanic you can possibly get)

^ ok, the original intake pipe is still on mine and point to my green cotton filter, as long as it secure and points at it is the main thing, otherwise the engine will suck in hot air which will be bad for it
the clutch "thrush" or "release" bearing is what he means, it could be caused by leaving it standing so take it for a test otherwise it needs to be replaced or the clutch can go

this is what my old intake is like:

yer i test drove it, doesnt make a sound when your moving or revving... only when it is just left ticking over...
thanks for the pic, thats pretty much what the car had... just didnt have the mini filter i see in that pic, woteva it is :)
and im glad to see plenty of rust on the engine cover :D gives me confidence
o and rep to you davies, great help

going back to the clutch thing... if its only making the noise when its just sitting there ticking over will it be ok for years to come?
Goddy
30th October 2006, 18:44
omg.. josh you live just down the fooking road from me mate...
doubledavies
30th October 2006, 18:47
personally id get it checked, it could go completelty u never know how much the car has been abused in previous life
btw my rocker cover has been resprayed:
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h231/doubledavies/IMG_1146.jpg
also, if you dont have the samll filter on the rocker cover (its called an oil breather) you must still have a tube on it going to the airbox, it must never be left open or crud will enter the engine and kill it, check the air filter has been put on propelry too!

Yea we dont live far apart :P, I take it yourll be coming on the east angila cruises
Goddy
30th October 2006, 18:52
ok then, thanks alot, im pretty sure there is a pipe instead of that oil breather, but not 100% seeing it again tomorrow so i can make sure...
as for the clutch, do you reckon the car has been badly treated if it is making this sound... and how much would a new clutch be?
o and to answer your question josh.. once ive got a furio and i make it presentable ill be up for a cruise.. dont even know what you do on a cruise, part from drive about.. but it sounds like fun anyway :D

If the thrust bearings gone, expect to replace the whole clutch.
It'd be pointless paying for all the labour of taking the gearbox off and then not replacing it. Their about 60 quid parts and poss 200 quid labour, depends who u know, or how skillful u are!
Knock the money off their selling price, unless its cheap for that reason.

^ agreed, also never underestimate the power of haynes
Goddy
30th October 2006, 18:56
erm.. its £2995.. very good condition outside and inside part from fooking lexus lights, 58k, full service history, 3 months warranty for upto £500 quid mechanical repairs... but i expect the clutch would have to totally die before they paid up.
and the central locking doesnt work properly lol, part from that its grand :)
and mot'd till oct 2007

30th October 2006, 18:57
age?, and if they really want the sale tell them to knock a bit off, and save money by doing the job yourself, its not too hard
Josh_Phipps
30th October 2006, 18:59
How do you mean the CL doesnt work properly?
Yea its a chance to meet up and have a chat about cars or Coronation Street
Goddy
30th October 2006, 19:00
2001, well he made a mistake on autotrader, he wants 3495, but one of the blokes put it up for 2995.. so they are giving me that price,
im considering getting one of those aa people out who can look at a car for you before you buy it.. to make sure everything is sound
central locking basically it clicks and everything, but the door pins aint moving so it isnt locking properly.. bit gay really but i reckon i could just about fix that if nothing else
doubledavies
30th October 2006, 19:04
^ yeah just remove the door cards and jiggle them a bit, should sort that easily
Goddy
30th October 2006, 19:07
cool.. so the only thing left to worry about is the clutch, and i am worried...
3 grand is alot of money to spend on a car that needs a new clutch i think, but all the other furios ive seen so far have been bundles of SHIT
thanks for your help guys, rep has been given to doubledavies, andyblacksaxo and josh_phillips... ill let my parents know what you guys have described to help us make a good decision on the car... CHEERS!
Andyblacksaxo
30th October 2006, 19:08
I expect the clutch is a wear & tear item that wouldn't be covered by the warranty. Check all the small print.
It does sound pretty pricey, but thats dealerships! Check Parkers

parkers recommend £2700.. but lets be honest, dealers are always going to increase prices.
what do you think i should do?
damn i cant read.. sorry josh_phipps
doubledavies
30th October 2006, 19:13
cool, thanks, for a 01 with that millage £2995 is reasonable, not that £3K plus he supposidly originally said he put in the mag. i think he is trying to make it sound like ur gettin a really good deal but he smells like BS a bit
www.parkers.com will tell you exactly what its worth, not £3495
Josh_Phipps

What's parkers.com then????
.co.uk :fcuk:
I think 3k is quite pricey. I'd try and knock them down or go Private. Dealers warranty's are WACK!
doubledavies
30th October 2006, 19:24
^ you know what i mean
£3496 -GTF
more like a grand less with the clutch problems
Goddy
30th October 2006, 19:47
yer well he is giving us 2995 atm.. going for a second look with the rents tomorrow, probably try and get £100 off the price due to clutch, replace lights, CL.. i think that is very far.
doubledavies
30th October 2006, 19:54
good luck, furios are the one!
Goddy
30th October 2006, 20:10
the one... as in the one saxo you cannot find if you go to a citroen dealer :)

30th October 2006, 20:12
Lol...
Andyblacksaxo
30th October 2006, 20:17
3k is too much mate.
Don't commit to it just because u can't find any others at the moment. There are plenty around. U'll only end up loosing money. IMO two and a half sounds more like the right price.
If its got lexus lights on it, chances are it's been ragged.
A mint 1 lady owner would be more like three grand.
Why not splash out and buy my 51 plate VTR. The insureance is only group 7, furio is group 5. 2800ono
Josh_Phipps
30th October 2006, 20:19
The difference in insurance for a furio to a VTR was £200 - Nothing!
VTR has my vote :)
Andyblacksaxo
30th October 2006, 20:28
Lol. Just noticed the Sig. "Can not be lowered" Doh, mines down 40mm.
Could always raise it. But who the hell would want to do that.
I can get over whatever speedbump the government can throw at me :fcuk:
Goddy
30th October 2006, 20:34
my parents wont let me get a vtr, and i will have 16v anyway :)
and yer cannot be lowered, again parents.. apparently its dangerous, but i aint going to moan, buying me a new car...
and because it has lexus lights its been raged, isnt that pretty much true of all saxos, and one lady owner from new seems to be around the £3500-4000 mark tbh
doubledavies
30th October 2006, 20:38
^ the prob is he may not come down on price and sell the car easily to someone who doesnt know as much as you about cars!
Goddy
30th October 2006, 20:40
hmm, i thought 2995 was reasonable anyway, but i could be wrong.
the car already has a nice exhaust, air filter.
plus i can sell the headunit + speakers (sony i think)
nice interior as well... we will see wot happens, if my parents like it ill probably end up getting it, if not the search continues :)
doubledavies
30th October 2006, 20:41
6 you never get the money back for mods
Goddy
30th October 2006, 22:54
well not getting the car, parents dont wana spend 3 g's on a car with a dodgy clutch.
good news is they seem to be moving towards a vtr cuz there are so few furios... watch this space :D
