Just got sax back from the garage after attempting to lower it, they said they wouldnt do it because some bearings are warn on the rear drivers side, didnt say which ones exactly, they said i need to get a complete new beam?
I no the garage double booked me, so were abit rushed for time, and i didnt tell them were my lock-in wheel nut key was, (was in the pouch behind my drivers seat, don't know if they would have found it or not?) The car doesnt look like its been touched? Any opinions on this?

u can tell if the bearings gone mate by jacking hte back up and giving it a shake, if it moves alot and there is and play then the rear arm bearing will be gone, they probly noticed it when jacking it up or sumamt, as for it not appearing to have been touched all the work goes on behind the wheel where you cant see, and if they did notice the bearing was gone they wouldnt have bothered id imagine.
ohh and you can buy a new bearing for it but its like 50 quid + 5hrs labour or somthing daft like that best off with a new rear beam

I supose that makes sense, if the rear wheel has got abit of play in it, they wouldnt have needed to touch it or take it off to find out. I think i'll jack it up when i get home and have a look

I will do mate, thanks for your help, would that effect the lowering tho? Excuse my ignorance but isnt the main beam seperate from the torsion bar?

The other problem with changing the bearing is that it can turn inside the beam so that when you come to change it it still has play as the new bearing will not grip the bearing case. Try a second hand axle from scrappys if you want to go the cheap option. Easy to change if you dont want the to pay garage labour bills, but if you still want it lowering then send it to the garage and get them to do it.

Right, had the rear up on the jack, and there is absolutly no play at all that i can find? Im no mechanic but everything seemed absolutly fine to me? The garage didnt wanna talk or explain the situation when i asked about it, and just basically got rid of me so im gona book it into another garage tomorrow to lower it and kind of explain the situation and see what they say....
