View Full Version : Ahhhhhggghh call centers

Ah well I need a rant!!!
Firstly, I am not racist.
Secondly, I'm not judging all call centers (and no not you, the chick who got a job there recently on here  )
Thirdly, yeh I should go ex directory, but i hear its just as bad
It always seems to be an "indian" who gets me, all the Fking time. Drives me mental, want to know the most annoying thing?
You're waiting for an important call on you're lanline, when the phone rings..
"hi sir this is not a survey call how are u sir on this day how are u today sir i must ask you sir are you BT phone? sir do you like free call? how are you today sir"
Etc...
I tried the polite approach at first, "no thanks!" Also tried the more aggressive "fuck off before i blow your mother up" - etc, etc..
I get this all the time, heres what annoys me the most.
1) the delay when you say "hello?" - i think their machines or something take like 15/20 seconds to load, then you hear the dreaded "hello sirrrrrr!!"
2) Only found this one out recently - they block the frigging phone up, you hang up.. guess what? they stay on the phone and don't hang up!!!! blocking you're phone line. Try it, pick up the phone after you hang up on them... "Hellllllllloooo sirrrrrrrrrrrrr, BT!?"
3) Also only found this one out recently, they call and hang up... so natrually you 1417 it, depending on time issues, you may 14713 it, putting you strait through. "BTTTTTT???" - pwned
So what are you're thoughts? they drive me absoloutly insaine - any tips??????

ex-directory is crap! im the call centre chick and i phone people who rant that they are!
have to say though i do hang up on people when they arent interested and dont force them to stay on the line
only way really is to tell them to remove them off your database, then they cant sell on your info in the future.... wont stop them completly though, think thats impossible

Natalie
2nd November 2006, 12:29
I work in a call centre. I'm a student saving for a mortgage deposit and the work is flexible and I'm desperate lol
We don't sell anything though, only do market research. We're doing one on supermarkets at the moment. I never make anyone speak to me, if they say no then I say "thank you anyway, bye" and take them of the list. If they are rude to me then I put them back through the system  because I don't deserve to be spoken to like that, and some people are really really rude
Some people are nice though and you can have a laugh and a joke talking to them
It doesn't matter if you are ex directory. They buy your number off other companies so if you've filled out a form and not ticked the box at the bottom in the small print saying you don't want them to pass on your details then chances are they have bought your number off that company

Yeh the people who talk english are normaly fine and just say ok thanks bye etc.. its the indian ones that fuck around. That sounds racist as fuck, but its true.. in my case anyway

They probably work on commission. I get paid no matter how many interviews I get so I don't mind if no one wants to talk to me. The only advantage if they do is that the time goes faster lol

No offence to any call centre people (cold callers) or sales people but they annoy the fcuk out of me.
In town and a guy selling windows asks you 'hello miss, would you be interested in new windows'
My response: 'Maybe if I had a house to put them on' or 'We have windows and doors thank you'
I'm a sales persons/call centre agents worst nightmare cos I have an answer for everything

ex directory means nothing nowadays. just remember when you're entering competitions or giving out details always tick the box saying 'i don't want my details passing on to a 3rd party' 'I don't wish to receive any promotional info via email, phone or post'
That's how your number gets sold on though other companies

By far the worst is when you mobile contract is coming up for renewal... as they all seem to get your mobile number... and try selling you different contracts instead... you'll hang up and someone from same company will call back with in 10 mins...

Dont get so wound up by these people!
They are only doing a job, hey I did it for a while
The best thing to do is have a laugh with them, if they say you have been selected for a free phone say thats great send it over to me, and do all the talking dont let them get a word in edge ways lol
Or if they are selling a cheaper phone say no I have it cheaper, but would you like some broadband? Double glazing?
lol just play them at their own game!

I can't be nice to somebody who is willing to rip you off to get paid more money, no matter what way you look at it.. they are trying to rip you off. Why would they be calling everyone and anyone up to give something away for so cheap, etc. Most of the employers are brainwashed anyway and think they are actually going to feature the persons house for free sofas, etc.

The people calling are not ripping you of, like me they are reading from a script and dialing the numbers they are given in a list for £7 an hour lol

In that silent p[ause at the begining of the phone call i generally hang up, im X directory too but i dont get many calls from them.
Telling them family members have died is a common escape route i think.
If i can be arsed or if iv been drinking i tend to stay on the line and be an arse to them. Taking 20 sec pauses before i answer any questions. Or answering the previous question, like that game!

So if a bank robber robbed a bank, when caught said.. oh no its ok, its what the script said. He is inocent?
thats how I look at it, they know they are "helping" you into getting ripped off and its fueled by money (you get more money via "bites" right?)
