my mother told me today that if you run your car on a low tank all the crap at the bottom of your petrol tank goes through the engine and cloggs up bits and pieces e.t.c.
i personally think this is utter shit :bored:
i dunno could the woman be speaking some sense, for once :P

^True, even the filter cant strain out all of the little bits of crud
also if it starts sucking up the crud it may not go in the engine but clog the fuel filter and cause fueling issues with the engine which can be worse

dont put crud in the fuel tank in the first place.
common sense :)

People say its bullshit, maybe it is on the newer cars i don't know... but my dad used to tell me this, bare in mind our parents may be used to older cars. If you get a look at a open petrol tank, you might see why they say it

to be honest that why there is a filter. ok lobbing mud in the tank is going to cause issues but the finer particles that through invariably get burned in the cylinder.

Listen to your mummy!
Had the RAC man ask my ex's mum if she was driving round with a low tank of petrol when her car wouldn't start. For this exact reason!

Surely its not a good idea to run it low in the first place is it?

goes quicker ;)

Rather the engine and fueling system stay in top condition than drag all the shit from the bottom of the tank.... Can go without the quickness!!!!
U can always use Redex every six months, dont expect your fuel to go far when u add it tho, it makes petrol burn quicker and cleans out the fueling system! £20 worth of fuel goes no where when u add redex!

^ stick some in 2 weeks before the MOT emissions test

i was told it is good sometimes to run it down to empty so that all the crap at the bottom of the tank isnt just left there to mess your system up!!! not sure if its true or not!!

Why's that mate?
I'm guessing it sends the emissions through the roof?

Didz; where do you think the crap goes if it dissappears?

that means all the crud is in your engine instead tho, i wouldnt recommend that unless you would like to strip and clean every engne part individually
the redex system will clean up the fueling and also emissions, its supposed to help pass the emissions test this way

For the love of god, how many times must this be asked? How many times must people give BULLSHIT advice handed down to them by there mum's dad's inbred aunt?
I run my car till its EMPTY I do this because, for reasons I've already put down THE LAST THREE TIMES THIS HAS BEEN ASKED, its utter balls to think that your fuel filter is in some way an ornoment

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh DIE DIE DIE stupid post.
1. Redex is corrosive great for stripping coatings off things like valves. Nice. User decent fuel like V power with good detergents instead
2. Where the fuck is all this crud coming from? Slight impurities in fuel? I think even a highly tuned saxo engine could cope. Please remember the fuel the cars are mapped for is everything from V power down to the shite they put in in Bulgaria

fair enough^ just chill
REdex may not be the best but a "good" fuel additive now and again doesnt hurt

i always use redex every 5 months and let the tank run into the red early all the time, this keeps the engine clear but anything that does get into the engine gets caught by my fuel filter which i replace once a year, car runs like a dream!!!!
