View Full Version : Side project ideas?

My mate has suggested building a track car as a joint venture, I’m really keen on the idea the whole thing is to do be done on a strict budget so no supercharger conversion or any of that shit.

I’m thinking a completely stripped Ax with a VTR engine would do the trick as both can be picked up for reasonable amounts of cash.

I also have access to a wide range of parts, knowledge and expertise thanks to you lot and the other associated Citroen forums.

My mate is less keen on the AX and would rather go for (his words):

“ So far suggestions for cars have included AX, Nova, Polo, Golf, Fiesta with Nova and AX currently winning as they regulary take residence in local scrappies (therefore parts are plentiful and cheap). “

I just wondered what everyone’s thought’s were in terms of car choice, engine etc.

I think if you get a decent engine such as the vtr or ideally the vts matched with a light weight car that’s been stiffened up in the handling dept it’ll do the job.

Once again this is all to be done on a very tight budget and as a side project to the Saxo.

This is the second idea with the first being selling my Saxo to buy an RS Turbo but this idea was rubbished by a well known member.

Cheers

Steve

for out and out cheapness then the nova cant be overlooekd especially with the reasonable ease of putting a larger engine in it.

Dont over look a 205 as well.

205 was mentioned but there quite expensive to buy in comparison to a nova or ax.

Vauxhall has countless engines to steal though :).

A mate and i have talked about doing this for a while too. He has a classic mini which we have always wanted to do something mad to. I quite like the idea of getting an old beetle to work with :P

He wants something 4wd though so we will c how it goes :P

Well for that sort of money you don't mind ripping the guts out of it and touching up any welding that needs doing etc. Helll I think even I'd buy that and turn it in to a track beast if I had the time/money/patience/interest.

Chris :)

fiesta mk3 with either an rs turbo lump in it or a 2.0 out of a mondeo.

Can be picked up for dirt cheap.

I like the sound of the bmw, why not make a drift car. Far cooler in my eyes!
