Got a VTS which has had head work, a custom exhaust and 4-2-1 manifold.
It feels a lot faster than standard, especially low down. I reckon it must be running at around 140bhp.....
Anyway, I just got completely smoked by a Golf GTI MK5 (197hp). This is a car with a simliar power to weight.
:upset:
What's the most likely explanation:
a. It wasn't a GTI it was really an R32.
b. He's had mods.
c. Makes sense, the GTI should be a lot faster.
d. I've eaten too many pies and weighed my car down.

doubt it was an r32, probably down to the fact he get a better start than you (your the worse driver)), or maybe your overestimating the power of you car

Nearly a second in it if both are standard.
Golf is 0-60 in 6.7
VTS is 0-60 in 7.6.
This is what I'm on about. My car is a lot quicker now I've had the mods. Must be making 60mph in 7 seconds dead (whatever the BHP). Pulls a lot harder in low revs too.
I reckon it's the top end...prob just ran out of steam...

if its a five door the difference is only half a second
scook
3rd November 2006, 19:14
that difference is defanitley down to the driver , he shouldnt be smoking you if you car is as fast as you say it is

was on a long straight carriageway with no other cars, I just held the wheel straight and nailed it, nothing to do with driving skill.

Im not proud of it but I had my first ever play with a Saxo VTS. My engine is standard except my Magnex inc Decat.
By 3rd Gear I had pulled about 2 cars length in front of him! My only 2 explainations are:
1) he wasnt on form and I was :P
2) all my weight reducing methods have paid off slightly
Oh yea and to add, it was me and a mate in mine, just one guy in the VTS.

Nah definatly wasnt, 1st gear was exactly the same.
The guy changed gear exactly the same time for 2nd! But my 2nd before 6000rpm got me just tipping infront. By the time I hit 3rd I could see I was ever so slowly creaping forward.
A VTR wouldnt have even been close, had VTS badges, wheels and interior.

Well ive not no spare wheel, wheel carrier has been removed, all boot insulation and lining has been removed.
Plus my OZ wheels weight nothing at all!
Must be close to 900kgs, so 120bhp means 133bhp per tonne!
all owners estimates :P thats me <<
