View Full Version : Fiesta ZS or Saxo VTR

I no im heading for a huge disagreement, but after i saw how easy saxo's fold in half on inpacts it made me worried.
I dont go crazy and drive sensibly by all means, but as my dad says you have to treat every other road user like there idiots so you have to watch your ass all the time.
so i was thinking about swapping the vtr for a new 06 plate zetec s or maybe the model before seeing on what i can get, also i no there not as fast as the vtr but there not that much behind them and also they are quite abit cheaper on insurance for me for some reason aswell.
I would be interested on people's views on the VTR and the ZS and maybe it can weigh up on what to go with because im not too sure at the minute
Cheers in advance

yeh that saxo crashing video shocked me also, if it makes you happy go for it.

did you see the crash test for the fiesta, it was very nearly as bad
also the mk6 zetec s is about 3 x more expensive than a vtr
AdamVTRUK

no i havent seen that one i will look for it on youtube

LOL, this WILL start a RIOT!
I have a VTS and a Zetec S (2001, model before current) and to be honest, the VTS is sooooo much better.
The ZS has the looks, and a little more safety, but is slow (not sure compared to a VTR?), and the seats are dam uncomfortable. That dark blue it comes in is pure nice!

thats totally down to each persons taste, personally i think the vt* is far better looking
that blue is pure sex though

at the moment in time i would have to rob a bank to insure a vts where as the ZS is about 200 cheaper on insurance than my VTR also my VTR only has 15k on the clock its a mk2 on 53 plate in Icelandic Grey so i hope i would get quite a bit of money for it
Curran
3rd November 2006, 21:51
you would have to rob a bank to buy a mk6 zetec s then cos they are about 8-9k
an 06 plate will be even more, upto 11k

Id say the vtr and zetec-s are extremely similar in speed. It all depends on what you want, go and test drive a few of each and see which one you prefer.
At the end of the day saxo's aren't the safest car in the world but there is still loads on the road so there is a reason why people buy them!
AdamVTRUK
3rd November 2006, 21:53
ive been offered a mk6 zetec s with 20k on clock on 05 plate in Colorado Red for 7k so its only a bit more than my car

how much are you wanting to get for yours?

Just buy a proper roll cage £400 for your saxo?
Saxoladlesta
3rd November 2006, 21:57
And a crash helmet?
AdamVTRUK
3rd November 2006, 22:01
i cant justify having a roll cage in my car
as regards to price i have been told the following word for word
"Basically Black CAP guides your vehicle to make £5495 on the forecourt and will make £3700 on a trade in, but depending on if the dealer etc wants to do a backwards deal you may be able to draw more for it."

3rd November 2006, 22:05
it depends on what you like fella. speed wise both are near enough the same.
you wont notice the second or 2 difference during normal day to day driving.
Barry123
3rd November 2006, 22:08
it depends what your priorities are mate
If safety is the big one then out of the two the fiesta is going to let you survive a little bit more... you'll probably still have all your bones smashed up but at least you'll be alive :)
if you prefer road dynamics then the saxo is up there among the some of the best :)
But i know what you mean, the saxo crash certification has me worried.

Aint that half the fun of drivin the Saxo or come to think of it all frech small cars that you take your life in your own hands everytime you get init?
Ive seen crashes that would make some people stop drivin completely let alone change cars (My mates dad is a fireman & lets say he has a photo album)
If safety really is a big issue then if you can afford it change or buy a Volvo :-)

I suppose the new zetec-s's will probs be a better drive, more economical too!

half the fun of driving a saxo is that you care very little for your own life once you get behind the wheel.
NCAP is for girls.

All small cars are a dodgey in a bump. Why look on the black side. Enjoy what you want to drive. :ying: :Y:

Personally I think your worrying a bit too much over something minor. If you had babies in the Saxo then I would be able to understand.
From my point of opinion the newer Zetec S isnt as good looking as the previous Zetec S. But they are both really nice cars to drive and they are comfortable to live with.
My Girlfriend has the Older Zetec S, and its a very clean and tidy car. End of the day this is a Saxo website so the views will mostly be biased.
The Zetec S for a 1.6 16v does underperform, everybody knows this. But tbh if you want a drivers car the Zetec S is nippy enough!
I cant comment on Rust issues as im yet to see this but as soon as I do I will let you know lol.
Thats just my insight anyways, dont get me wrong the VTR is a very nice and smart car.
But so is the Zetec S (older model), great fun to drive, does handle well, cheap to insure, well built, doesnt have a flipping torsion bar lol, and if you want it to go faster there is more than enough you can do to it.

like the old R5's then, nothing that can't be sorted if you catch it early.
i've always been a fan of the Zetec-s, and very nearly bought one before i saw my VTS.

the ride quality will be 500 times better than the saxo.
saxo ride quality is appauling. country road with small bumps or holes make your car bang about like crazy.
even worse if you lower them and saxos only look good when lowered.
id take an escort over my saxo, sooooooooooo sick of it.
they look mint when there lowered and i like other peoples but i hate mine.

Dont totally agree with that mate, a nice set of Bilstein Sprintline's will fix it up a treat. Much better ride quality but sticks to the road when you need it too.
Ive found the Zetec S to be quite hard at times in standard form, much harder than standard Saxo suspension.
Just voicing my opinion mate not anything personal lol :p

ooo a might try some of these sprintline thingys
bet they cost a bomb :x
id love saxos if the ride quality was just better on dodgy country roads (im on one every day to get to work). hearing the suspension bang and knock every minute puts me in a mood lol
i'll look into them.

I remember my VTR was terrible, but thats because the rear axle was mashed and bearings gone.
This all we due to the fact the torsion bar wasnt done by a French specialist and plus the Saxo took flight a few times lol.
My pug though sounds solid, only noise i get it when I go over bad bumps and I can hear the bumperstomps smacking.
AdamVTRUK
4th November 2006, 11:32
ahhh ive always loved pug 106's but the only one i want is too much on insuranc eif you havent guessed the gti or the raylee s2 look so nice but i havent got a chance in getting a raylee so my hopes in a few years time is to find a decent gti its just the saxo at the minute i love the way it looks but its the little things thats building up on the car that putting it down

If your having problems then what I always do is write a list of what needs doing.
Every little thing.
That way you can take one look at it and think to yourself "can it be done, or shall I just get rid of it"
If there are too many things to do then best to get rid of it, I couldnt let go of my Saxo because it was my first car, then ended up breaking it in half anyways lol.
There have been many times Ive been close to selling the GTi, just because ive felt I cant be arsed with the hassle. But decided to see it through each time! Only thing left for me to sort is my rattling exhaust and new ABS sensors.
Only you know your situation mate, do what you knows right!

A hobnob is made out of biscuit which has far better material properties than paper... which is what the saxo is made out of.

Did you see the fiesta crash test? i thought there wasnt much in them to be honest, like all small cars, they pretty much fold.

The Fiesta was very bad definatly, but if you watch the Saxo one after you can definatly see which one is the worst.
Looked at the X5 crash test after than, the differences are amazing.
Watching the Saxo still hasnt put me off my car, not enough to go out and buy a Fiesta now lol. If i was thinking like that I would just get a bus pass, nothing is knocking over a Travel West Midlands bus!!

i have looked at the crash tests for both Honda civic and 206 are put in the same test as ZS and VTR and they both end up with front end damage no folding of any kind just bonnet crumples thats it infact sod the ZS ill go for the c2 GT 1.6 16v group 6 insurance, sturdy and economical thats a winner in my eyes or maybe the c2 vts 1.6 16v group 8 insurance
