I'm not looking to start a debate, I just want to know your opinions in general.

Last night I was at my Girlfriends having a little bonfire and fireworks. We had 3 boxes of fireworks. Is it me or do a lot of people find Bonfire Night/Fireworks pointless?

Fireworks are quite expensive, some are naff and do nothing, some explode - literally and tbh ain't that spectacular.

I wish they would just ban Bonfire Night, all you can here is them banging away right now and pissing me RIGHT off. The amount of Bonfires that actually go out of control aswell...

So what's your opinions?

i agree about some of it, i think they should have a curfew,

i mean some people set them off like 2weeks before and after bonfire night! and at stupid o'clock!

they are sooo expensive too, i went round my cousin, the best one was probably the catherine wheel! :P and it all came to over £100! so pointless...

Seriously mate you sound old before your time. If anything I think bonfire night is more for kids.

I went to a display with Ash last night and the fireworks were magnificent but only went on for 20 mins so over all was a big let down. I don't think I'll bother again til my friends daughter is old enough to appreciate them.

The catherine wheel we had just exploded in front of our eyes.

I just don't see the big deal in them, they go up and bang. Woohoo, NOT! Lol.

I'm not moaning about it, just don't see the big deal. I could think of more interesting things to spend my money on.

IMO fireworks are well pointless unless they are loud as fuck. i wouldnt bother buying them unless they are extremely loud. if they dont bang there shit IMO.

only prob is the loud one's are illegal. and only imports are shithot.

kelly i went to a display that was 20 mins long but i bet there they wernt cheap 20 mins is about right for a display,
i agree there expensive but its only once a year i got 30 rockets for 12 quid
its only a bit of fun but the kids love the display ect so i personaly think its fine

Luke
5th November 2006, 22:50
I never appreciated fireworks when I was a kid tbh, probably because we didn't have much money.

it dont cost much to walk to your local display or dirve or get the buss

Luke
5th November 2006, 22:54
Like I said though, I never appreciated them as a kid. I never asked to go to display, so that's how I probably ain't too bothered about them.

They annoy me when theyre going off at all times of the night and the small ones are pointless.

The best ones are the loud ones- me and my mates bought one called 'The Landmine' a few years back which cost £50 and was supposed to be insane....

..the result being...

scared the life out of us and was so loud it shattered the windows in the shed. :)

Somebody get grandad his slippers!!!!

I like them, its not something you see every day and its only a coupla days a year. Some are really good too, the gigangtic ones that light up the sky etc. its all a bit of fun, cant beat that bonfire night smell either

Luke

Leo, no need for your sarcastic comments. I didn't wanna start a whole fucking debate about it, just asking peoples opinions.

Nathan
5th November 2006, 22:59
me n my m8 spent 50£ on a 500 shot Firework box called End of The World, we bought the loudest you could buy and they were insane!

i can see where your coming from the because when it was over we were like that was 25£ each just gone up in smoke! let them off in the garden too and i live on a small estate and your could hear the windows clattering!

Was alaugh but defo just go to shows n stuff next year. it happens once a year, so why not!

And you just got my opinion, so you meant you wanted everyones opinion to be the same as you'rs?? a bird said you sound over your age, didnt mention that.. grandad

5th November 2006, 23:03
My points of view in brief:
there expensive
they are fun
they do seem pointless but you have to enjoy them when there going off
kids enjoy it more than the older ones (well supposidly lol)
the rubbish and smoked let off by them is horrible (as bad as littering)
oh and finally I like the loudest ones :P

We have just been outside for about an hour and a half lighting up ours. Spend £180 in all but felt it was worth it as my cousins enjoyed it and my little bro had a laugh. Trash everywhere though now...

Not being funny Leo but Luke knows me and would most likely know that I'm only having a giggle when I say he sounds 'old before his time'

As Kelly says, I know she is only having a giggle because I know her sense of humour etc.

I was just saying what I thought, did I say I was a Grandad? Everyone has THERE OWN opinion about the whole thing. I'm not a typical immature 18 year old..!

Leo
5th November 2006, 23:09
Well, I guess alot of people are too polite/ballless too say a real opinion. No matter what way this thread was worded, he is basicly moaning about bonfire night. For an 18 year old lad to moan about bonfirenight, I belive calling him grandad is not inappropriate... obviosly in a non serios way as 18 is very young. He asked for opinions, he got mine.. should accept it even if he doesn't agree with it. If you cant do that, don't ask for opinions.

Exactly, and my opinion is differernt to you'rs. You really need to accept ALL opinions if you are going to ask for them mate....... they can't all be the same, grandad comment was a bit of banter

Luke
5th November 2006, 23:10
Yeah, whatever.

So what you are trying to say is that I am 18, I gotta love bonfire night? Not everyone is the same.

Luke
5th November 2006, 23:11
All I was saying is that you didn't mean the Grandard compliment as a 'bit of banter'

When Kelly said what she did, I knew she was messing.

Starting a bloody debate, as I knew it would.

Leo
5th November 2006, 23:11
Yeah, whatever.

No I am simply saying that you should'nt ask for opinions if you can't take them.

Leo

No, no debates here.. I won't post another comment don't worry! LataZ

I seriously thought this year that I'm getting too old for it as there's no excitement in it for me anymore. What can I say I'm almost 20 and the only thing that I love about fireworks now is the massive ones that fall from the sky like stars.

Kelly
5th November 2006, 23:16
No I am simply saying that you should'nt ask for opinions if you can't take them.

Well done mate you've caused the thread to go way off course and this being an innocent thread will probably carry on this way even if you do insist not to post anymore and get locked

Bravo!

i havnt read through the thread.. but here are my views.

some fireworks are pointless.. esp. the cheap ones...

every year, we have our own bonfire/fireworks party..

we have shitloads of fireworks.. and theyre not cheap.. theyre awesome!

you get some fireworks cakes which have a barrage of 1000+ they are well worth it.

the cheap ones you can buy from a newsagents are shite IMO.. theyre good fun with a few mates.. (aslong as ur not pissing about..)

its all fun, i say keep it

To be honest they dont bother me, i wouldent go out and buy them when i can watch everyone else blow there money into pieces. Yes it's fun lighting them yourself etc etc... but it's a waste of money for a little fun.

Most display are not on the 5th, because peole like to have their own displays on that night in their back garden. I personally agree with Leo.... fireworks are great and I'm 27.... we do one every year for all the kids in the family and their friends and we enjoy seeing the looks on their faces.... we also go to our local to see the big display they put on.... I didn't think there would ever be an 18 year old that sounded like an OAP, but you've done a pretty good job of it. All this is just my opinion... take it or leave it. I'm not being abusive, just think it's strange people moaning about fireworks.

Chris :)

Me, the missus and 1 year old went to an organised event on the saturday night (simply because not everyone could make sunday) and it was fantastic!

I'm 28 and still enjoy a proper display, and little Callum was awestruck, so we decided to get some for at home last night just for Callum and they were pathetic and cost a fortune!!!!!

From now on we're just going to go to organised events - they're free and you don't get the neighbours sniggering at your pathetic rockets and exploding farts!

I like all the sweets better than the fireworks...Yes i am fat lol!

i love bonfire night. we always have a load of people at the house, do a bbq, eat toffee apples and stand in front of the fire. we don't have fireworks though, too many animals about but i love sparklers. it makes me feel like a big kid again. in my opinion, its an excuse for a party and to be honest we don't really need that much of an excuse to have a get together. we even had two bonfires this year because i wasn't there on the Saturday night.

it is more for the kids, but then isn't Halloween, Christmas and Easter aswell? and im just a big kid anyway.

I'd never pay for a load of fireworks I'd much rather bop down into town and see the local fireworks there... its free, the fireworks are going to be a hell of a lot better than some piddlely garden things.

Fireworks are fun but id never waste my dosh on them.

Didz
6th November 2006, 10:14
yeah they can be expensive, but if you go to an organised display you dont have to pay so whats the problem!!! i love bonfire night!!!

6th November 2006, 11:08
I love bonfire night too! Last night my Dad spent the whole evening moaning about the fireworks because they're too loud and scare the dog - that's an old man in need of his slippers.

I watched them from my bedroom window - it's free and you don't even have to go outside in the cold!

I'd never pay loads of money for them - but i don't exactly mind them. When they are done propa they look alright, and it can be a good show. Me and Craig while we were away this weekend - went to an event and there fireworks looked ace - and the display was fab! But last year was definatly the last time i will pay for them for some time.

We did a little display round my girlfriend's Dad's house lastnight...... he spent £85 and they lasted over an hour easily...... there were a few too many fountain type ones, but other than that it was brilliant.

I like fireworks and bonfire night, used to love having a bonfire in the garden.

once (or maybe twice) a year u have to 'put up' with fireworks going off for a few days.

Go dust off your record player and have a listen to that for a few nights in november if u dont like em

The catherine wheel we had just exploded in front of our eyes.

1. Your not spose to stand close to fireworks once they have been lit
2. your suppose to nail them loosly to a post so that they can spin ;)
