with some insurance companys. if it aint damaged they aint bothered so you might get away with it and get some money back. they are getting more strict these days so you might not get anything m8. hope it all works out for you. fingures crossed.

if your lucky, not declaring stuff sometimes can void your insurance... however, if they need an engineer to look at the car he might be a twat and not realise anything has been changed.
My advice is to change the wheels back to standard if possible as that will be one of the main things they would notice

The truth is, insurance companys will do anything in their power NOT to pay.. it's as simple as that. If you was driving and crashed, not declaring would void it.. as you wasn't there etc etc..... not declaring the mods MIGHT go unnoticed, but I really don't know.

Yea if they can find an excuse not to pay, they will. At the end of the day they are out to make a profit. If the engineer spots anything that hasnt been declared there is a good chance of him voiding the insurance. The best thing to do is put it back to standard as much as possible

Any chance of you being able to get the stuff off?
If not they will probably pay out but take off whatever your premium would have went up with those mods declared.
Could just say it was all put on that day you was going to ring insurance up monday morning. They will just cover you for standard car though.

I appreciate you not wanting to hear it but insurance companies are clamping down on mods, i suggest you get them wheels off pronto and at least change the exhaust backbox before anyone comes to value the car.
you can get away with it being lowered, i did after my car got rear ended last xmas. They just assumed i needed a new rear beam.
If mods are not decalred regardless of the situation the insurers will void the insurance unless you are extremely lucky to get away with it, however it is not worth the risk.
Most companies are available 7 days a week so the I was going to phone on Monday wouldnt work, in their eyes the mods should not have been carried out until they were notified.
However with regards the exhaust if you cannot change that you could always plead ignorance, I once got told by an insurance company that as long as you havent done the mods yourself then technically you have bought the car standard. But i think you would be pushing it to try and get away with that.
You need to at least get those wheels off.
The other thing you need to be careful of is openly announcing on a public forum that you havent had your modifications declared/insured. Main reason being you never know who is viewing the forums.
What insurance company are you with though?
Im sorry if i have sounded horrible/negative and i appreciate your anger but you do still have to be careful what you say on the internet.
What year/model is the car? How much is it insured for? Im assuming you would have phoned your insurers by now?

when my mirca got wrote off it was lowerd and i had an exaust on ! but it was only lowerd 35mm might be a bit different if its on its arse im not to sure but if you still have the standard springs try to get them back on or just say it was like that when i got it and plead ignorance or sumit like that !
little twats must have had nowt better to do sorry about the car mate good luck with the insurance !

it would be ok him changing the springs at front but dont forget about the torsion bar on rear :P little bit harder to do. chances are they wont notice the ride height of the car, unless the bring another bog standard one along with them which is highly unlikely.

Only things i needed to declare on my car were ice, alloys and an induction kit. I declared the induction kit, but when i mullered the car the bloke at the repair centre said that they could source the parts if needed to get the car stock again if i hadnt declared. Seeing as the alloys came with the car and i could take the ice out he didnt need to do anything, apprently if you an prove the car came with something on there it is seen as standard, although obviously theres going to be a limit with bodykits etc.
Hope ya get it all sorted out mate

can you not take the alloys off and leave it on bricks, then just break the back box off and leave it like that, that way they you can lead them to think the alloys were nicked and the zorst was vandalised! and they may not notice its been modded!

and then you would look even more suspicious. dont forget the fire brigade reports.
Only reason i asked what car it is is to think about what you could do, i have had an awful lot of dealings with insurance companies about things like this so i know what you cant and cant get away with etc. drop it in a PM to me if you like, if not i respect that.
I'm currently trying to sort out a claim on my 205 GTi which my b/f killed.
It is getting rather interesting now but I can not wait to get my complaint letter in.
We are charging the insurance company for storage and are getting paid the storage fees, for every single day. :D:

i tell you i would love to be an insurance company with you lot, you make yourselves look sooooooo suspicious and would just dig yourselves a deeper hole.
If you do that you will be expected to report it to the police, you will then probs have to sell the wheels as the police are not stupid (all the time anyway)
You would just dig yourselves deeper and deeper.
If your really desperate to cover this up, change the wheels (however hard this is going to be) and change the zorst. if you start changing the front springs dependant on how low the car is you are going to be raising attention to the fact the rear is on its arse (unless your a dab hand at torsion bars aswell) leaving it as it is will be better for.
But please dont forget what i have said, be careful how much information you divulge on here with regards mods etc. :D:

been watching this thread since the morning... the more I read as the day went on the more annoyed I got, especially when I'm paying for my mods to be declared, he aint and now trying to get away with it.

it is true, i'll admit. He should have declared, then there would be alot less hassle. I was going to say something earlier but i think he realises he has done wrong by not declaring. (and with me still technically being a newbie i dont want to upset anyone)
However he didnt so lets help him as best as we can yeah?
Hopefully hes learnt his lesson from not declaring, it is not worth the hassle if something does go wrong.
I dont actually need to declare my mods :P as i only have refurbed standard wheels :P :P

come on peeps there is no need for this.
he has just had his car burnt out for no reason. i can understand him being a little het up about some of the comments here but he is understandably angry and im sure some of that anger is with himself.
But he has already said he knows he has done wrong so like i said why dont we try and help him out as best we can? :D:
I agree he should have declared etc but he didnt so why keep bringing it up. We know he didnt and he knows he didnt.
I undestand that the last thing you need when going through something like this is you shouldnt have done that, you shouldve done this. He clearly knows he is wrong by not declaring.
From the sounds of it he should be able to sort it fairly easily.
My boyfriend was exactly the same with his Smart Car. Big 17" rims, lowered 60mm, loads of engine mods, etc bodykit the lot. Not one single bit of it was insured. but he was lucky enough that if he had anything go wrong with ote he could just undo a couple of screws and swap everything. luckily nothing did go wrong. Sorry for hijack.
I just cant understand why we have to have the argueing here.
:D:
