Spanner on dash screen

Ok I know what the spanner means, its just not time for it to appear :P

The counter on the miles till service said 6100 but then suddenly dropped to 0 and the spanner appeared, does it actually do anything to the car? an can it be set back to what it was? Lastly why would it of gone wrong in the first place ?

It's been 12 months since your last service and is now due.

If you've had it done and not had the service light reset you can do it yourself from your manual

Well the service was done by the garage when I bought the car, and the service light wasn't on. They have stamped my service book, so I should just reset it or ?
