hey guys, i know this will have a really mixed response but il give it ago....
i own a horse and yes i do rie on the road BUT i agnoledge other road users and i wear reflective tabard and my horse has reflective leg bands and breast strap for visibility ( this is worn even in the daytime) also i thank every one who passes wide and slow.
moving on i was ridding my horse round a bend and a car skidded behind me as he was driving to fast my horse reacted calmly just allert, but then this car dropped one to many gears revved hell out of the car a wheel span to pass me right on the bend, there was a car coming the other way so to enforced the stop sighn to him ( this is just holding your hand out infront of you) as this stupid car sped pass i notice that he had a car seat in front with a baby in and a child in back with no belt on!!!!!!! i was so mad thankfully the car driver in front of me stoped to make sur i was okay as my horse was in the hedge were the fast car revved so loud.
wat are your views???

I almost ploughed into a horse.......was scariest moment ever.....came round a corner and it was just in middle of road...silly rider couldnt control it. But using my Vin Diesel driving skills I managed to downshift through the gears and slide round the bloody thing.... Wicked or what...
No relevance to thread really but I see you mentioned horse in your post

Sounds like the guy was being inconsiderate and a twat in more ways than 3, a mate had a scare a while ago with a horse and rider. coming round a bend fairly quickly and there were 2 horses infront. So he quickly braked so as not to scare the horses but the dump valve sent one of them mad when he came off the accellerator sharply.
The instructor had a go at my mate calling him all the names under the sun even though it wasnt really his fault.

i believe you should ride your horse on the rode unless to are in full control of it!! horses have there own mind and is a activity that you have to have your witts about you- never think a horse is compleatly road safe.
i hold my ride and rode safty but many dont!! also there are alot of riders that dont have respect when riding on the road and give the rest of us a bad name.

bends are dangerous but i usually trot round them so that if a car does come behind me i am seen hence my reflective gear even in the daytime.

2 be fair I always slow down on the road and drop the tunes.
It's always going to be problem 4 me thou. I'm into Mountain Biking, and its not always possible to kill the speed in time. So sometimes i'm gonna end up scaring horses and their riders. But I do my best, cos I know what it feels like to be thrown off a horse, Not nice!

no offence but i hate horses on the roads just as much as i hate cyclists on the road, there a hazard to road users having to swerve round them, especially when its a narrow country road with alot of bends it puts my safety at risk which i dont like.
the bloke who wheelspan sounds like a complete dick, i always slow down and keep it in low revs as not to scare the horse.
Mark
7th November 2006, 18:24
Horses and cyclists are valid road users and they do not present a hazard to a skilled driver. Anyone who drives at speed around narrow country roads with a lot of bends without knowing whether the road ahead is clear of obstacles is a serious threat to other road users. The public roads are not an F1 race track, with martials and officials waving yellow flags to warn of unseen hazards ahead! Who knows what could be around the next bend? Sounds like the driver in question shouldn't have a licence.
Sadly with so many drivers thinking that they are the world's best driver and that they own the road this situation is likely to happen again.
@OP - At least this time you were fortunate that there wasn't an accident. I'm glad you and your horse are ok.

drag huntind is the hounds following a scent which is laid by a member of the hunt, usually someone will walk and drag the scent (which is a rag soaked in tea usually) or they will use a quad so it's quicker. the hounds are then supposed to follow this scent rather than the scent of a fox. although if the drag scent crosses with the scent of a real fox then the hounds willl go after the real fox and the master will not know as he does not know where the other scent has been laid. simple really.
hope your ok She_Racer, it can really shake you up when things like that happen. i've had it done loads of times, the worst was when mine spooked and i ended up in the path of an oncoming lorry. just make sure that you say thank you to everyone who passes you even if they don't slow down that much or they pass you a bit closer than you would like. they can't say that you never thanked them then.
