Guys,

Hopefully Leckie will be able to help! I am currently using my Dad's laptop because mine isn't working right. Last night I went on my laptop, went on Sax-P and everything was fine but I came back home from girlfriends last night and the computer loads fine BUT I can't load ANY folder or program up.
I.E double click Internet Explorer, starts loading as it's going to open the browser but then does nothing.

Does anyone know what this could be or a way round it? Obviously if i'm to reboot the whole PC i'd want to back everything up but without it clicking on folders etc I can't.

Thanks in advance.

Does it just randomly stop working luke? Do you think you could get the data from the machine one day?

Sounds like the O/S is shagged and needs a rebuild to be honest.

It doesn't stop randomly, but say if I go to shut it down it comes up with loads of End Program windows. Last week before the meet, IE kept crashing everytime it loaded up but it was fine upto last night.

I probably could get the data, what would you need? I'll probably end up doing a reboot but means losing a LOT of photos.

not being silly; have you restarted the machine?

Luke

Yeah I have restarted about 3 times.

Well if you can back up your data you will be fine.

Have you tired a system restore?

Luke

I can't even access that mate to take it back to another restore point, as it won't load up a thing - so I might have a problem backing up but we will see.

Luckily my Dad has gone away on a training course until Thursday, so I'll do it through the week.

Cheers Leckie, would give you rep but I need to give more out.

Luke

when you're pc is booting up, keep tapping F5... you will get a menu appear, and you can go down and select safe mode :)

see if you have any luck with that, if it boots, you can do a system restore from in safe mode. It basically loads Windows with the minimal amount of drivers etc :)

Cheers Easty.

I'll do that now..

Right, started computer up and the following has come up.

- Continue with system restart

Funny you say that Ash, because McAfee is loading up but before this happened I got a little window where I had to put in my password so I could access the internet, but it ain't doing that now...

Right, started computer up and the following has come up.

- Continue with system restart
- Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu

This problem can occur when your computer enters into the Hibernate mode and accesses a corrupted memory snapshot.

To resolve this problem, select the "Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu" option which enables the computer to perform a normal restart, instead of performing the restoration process while the computer is in Hibernate mode.

glad it's working again mate.

if you go to start - run, type msconfig

click on the startup tab, and you can select which programs you want to load on startup :)

Also, you thought about using a better Anti-Virus, AVG is pretty good and free http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1/lng/us/tpl/v5

and Opera is a much better browser than IE www.opera.com

I am only using McAfee because my Dad has it on his and think it's good. Tbh, ever since I installed it I have had problems but with his computer it's fine.
