My suspension is getting a bit tired and am thinking of replacing it next month...

For those of you that have replaced your suspension, what recommendations do you have?

Not sure I want to goto the expense of fully adjustable coilovers smileys/smiley9.gif

Give me some examples/approx prices please smileys/smiley2.gif

But if they are the best recommended ones why try something untested... Oh wait I forgot you already do that!!!!! Oh well, might as well get something new and untested and let us know how you get along! smileys/smiley4.gif

Well, if ur feelin adventurous, try 2 fit some suspension from another car! Like say, some HKS suspension meant 4 an MX-5 or somethin, but mayb not such a ridiculous car as that tho... smileys/smiley17.gif
It would give u another challenge 2 change the rear torsion beam 2 just normal suspension... smileys/smiley2.gif

wot would be the point of that. surely putting the suspension meant for a different car onto the saxo would make the handling worse!!!!!

it probably wud du.

Ripper3
22nd February 2004, 20:44
I no, i was only jokin, dont ACTUALLY expect someone 2 do that... smileys/smiley17.gif but if u lifted the suspension from a caterham or an Elise, ud get better handling and it would b twitchier so u could turn in a lot quicker
I would suggest HKS but they do stuff 4 Jap only machines... smileys/smiley5.gif

I would go for some of the H&R coilovers mate, i fitted some to a Clio the other day in work and they where mega, the ride and quality of them was amazing, you could driop the suspension right down for those trackdays aswell !!!!!!

Ripper3
22nd February 2004, 21:08
Problem is cost, he didnt wanna spend so much...

Scott
22nd February 2004, 22:49
taking suspension from an elise or caterham wouldnt make it any better as it was not made for the car but for something completely differentsmileys/smiley17.gif

SO?!
I dont care! smileys/smiley17.gif
I still say do it neways! smileys/smiley17.gif
But wot about changin the rear torsion beam 2 normal suspension?
Has ne1 ever done that?

Simo

H&R coilovers... prices??

Just had a not back from GMC, who reckons my lower wishbone bushes are knackered.

Apparently the rear bushes are expensive to buy on their own, so the usual route is to fit a pair of Pug Sport, Grp N wishbones, which come with the front/rear bushes and the ball joints... £130 each though!

smileys/smiley5.gif What a pickle smileys/smiley17.gif

Scott
22nd February 2004, 23:02
changing the rear to normal strut suspension would be a fucking nightmare and a lot more hassle than its worth i think.

Thats a bit pricey Simo smileys/smiley3.gif

Ripper3
22nd February 2004, 23:04
Well, y not get some better components so it dont get f'd up again?
Costs more but it may not happen again...?

Ripper3
22nd February 2004, 23:06
Well, get hydraulics then!
Easier to fit, looks good, plus its more adjustable!
Well, just a thought neway... smileys/smiley17.gif
Rayvern Hydraulics is he place 2 go if ur interested...but i guess u only want some standard struts up front tho...

Simo
22nd February 2004, 23:26
When modifying a car, the idea isnt to replace every bit with a gimickey piece of crap!

Hydraulics would be of little use when blasting around a strip. Easier to fit?? smileys/ponder.gif

New struts up front, possibly coilovers but not essential... either way, the pistons will be of greater diamater and hence stronger.

At the rear, theres no point replacing the torsion bars for a McPherson setup... that would just be wrong.

Unless you're throwing an engine in the rear smileys/smiley2.gif

Thicker torsion bars, yeah I can just about see the feasibility of doing that... just!

My components haven't been fucked up due to dodgy parts... just that they've had a lot of punsihment over the 4 years theyve been blasted around.

dam i was about to say that dave!!!

Ripper i no u are trying to incease ur post count but surely u could just edit your posts and add these little bits to it....

I was implying what scott said that there would be sod all point in putting a set of elise suspension onto a saxo as it not made for it so wouldnt be worth the hassel it would be better getting new suspension designed for the saxo which would be more suited to what simo whats to throw at it!!!
