I do envy all these people on sax-p doing fiberglass boot builds.... i'm far to thick to do it myself :bored:

Sorry to ask but how do you get sufficient priviledges to view attatched images?

Each time I try, get refused by the forum software :(

i thing before i start glassing it, is it better to cover it in resin, then apply the fiberglass in large pieces or, do it in smaller sections like cut up 4" x 4" squares say and do it like that
hope that makes sense

Soak the whole thing in resin&hardner, let it set rock solid. Use smaller squares as its far easier to stab any air bubbles out of them, larger square will work but its harder work for you and increases the chance of air becoming trapped and weakening the structure.

When doing the square, slap a decent amount of resin on the build first then put the square on with more resin on top, stab the resin throught he square and stab any air bubbles out.

looking good matey, what are you going to do as finishing touches? spraying it or covering it?

l1ukeRS
23rd November 2006, 11:11
cheers guys, i used a blanket thing i found in airing cupboard to cover it, mom was cool too didnt even get a bolockin for just using it :y:

im unsure as to whether im going to cover it or paint it yet im going to do 1 last trial fit this weekend in the boot just to make 100% sure it will go in,

+ its late night shoppin up telford tonight so im gonna get a cheap thing of resin until my ebay stuff arrives so that i can resin it at the weekend ill get pics up of it all too and as for a guide there is 1 already but ull probly be able to do it using this thread too all bein well when its done

mehmeh
23rd November 2006, 21:21
Painting it requires some serious work in the filling / sanding department. I've always covered anything larger than kick builds because I'm lazy :D

it will be finemate, mehmeh is right in saying its a lot of work but think about the finish all the time. and as the old saying goes
"fail to prepare, prepare to fail"
hope you spray it mate, coz it will look the double d

26th November 2006, 12:44
ive made it so that the back sits put from the back seat so they will sit behind it and then ill make a false cover for them at the top so it looks to be sitting flush with the seat if ya get me?

just put the 1st layer of fiberglass on the 1 side but i ran out of resin so gotta wait till me other stuff arrives now, it aint looking to bad at the moment for the first time ever of using fibergalss but time will tell.

and its only cost me 14 quid so far and good few hours labour

l1ukeRS
18th December 2006, 11:42
i did cover it but i looked at it and thought nah dont like that so ive started carefully filling and sanding through grades and its nearly ready for spraying now, i must have put down 3 layers of primer already only to find low or high spots on it but im making progress then ill get my mate to spray it but i dont no what colour yet

Predator_R32
18th December 2006, 12:38
nice mate a should have my install today or tomorrow so cant wait, just need to get some paint for the boxes and cloth for the floor oh and the most important thing 2 subs and an amp lol

flee123
18th December 2006, 13:31
Get something called Durabuild mate. It's a filler primer and goes chalky when you sand it. Put a guide coat on too so you can see where the high/low spots are. Its looking really good though dude, love it.

l1ukeRS
18th December 2006, 13:51
cheers ill have to take sum pics of it ater on when im home as it looks alot better now, im using u-pol polester type bodyfiller on it from halfords and its goin really well, it gives a really smooth finish to it just the filler keeps clogging up my sandpaper so im gonna start to wet sand it i think

ill try to keep it updated

luke
