it was 1400 tpft on my 1.0 with a years no claims at that age.is it on your parents insurance?
Luke
22nd November 2006, 21:00
That is very good mate.
MK1 or MK2 VTR? In your own name yeah?
MrWest
22nd November 2006, 21:03
Its on my own and its a MK 1
Luke
22nd November 2006, 21:03

MrWest
22nd November 2006, 21:17
ok cool :D
Ive seen a car I like.
Information on it...
Manual, Hatchback, Petrol, 85,000 miles, Red. Sony CD player and amp. OZ racing alloys. Lowered. HPi clear. Uprated interi. Very clean. Service history. Part exchange welcome. All cards accepted. £1,995.
What ya recon?
Luke
22nd November 2006, 21:33
Service History? I presume it hasn't got FULL service history.
I personally would not touch a car with that kinda mileage on it without a FSH.
MrWest
22nd November 2006, 21:38
No? Oh lol ok.
Ill keep looking then
Luke
22nd November 2006, 21:40
It's up to you mate at the end of the day, I'm just giving my opinion as ME personally wouldn't buy that.
I'd also buy one TOTALLY standard as you can do all the work yourself but again it's your decision.
Good luck with it all ;)

22nd November 2006, 21:57
im not a fan of high milages cars, full service history does help but i still wouldn't trust it
£1200 is a really good price @ 17.....just go find a low milaged vtr now

Insurance companies are starting to stop insuring under 21's on VT models, RAC and a few others have already phased this in unless you are an existing customer.
So buy it basically. Now
MrWest
22nd November 2006, 22:22
Lol, anyone know anyone with a saxo VTR for sale in cornwall? :D
Luke
22nd November 2006, 22:32

Seriously?
What happens for me then for the next 2 years?
MrWest
22nd November 2006, 22:33
"unless you are an existing customer." ?
Luke
22nd November 2006, 22:34
Yeah, it says an exisiting customer but does that mean you have to stick with your current insurer?
MrWest
22nd November 2006, 22:36
oh, I dont know. If it does, gutted.
Luke
22nd November 2006, 22:37
I think IF insurances companies bring this in, it should be after a certain date after you bought the car. That is fair then.

22nd November 2006, 22:38
THats what RAC told me when I tried to get insured on a VTR, just said theryre trying to do their bit in the industry to stop young motorists dying. VTR = classic boy racer car, altough I know most on here arent like that
Luke
22nd November 2006, 22:40
Yeah exactly, tbh most VTR drivers ain't boy racers it's just the minority.
If that was to happen there is a LOT of people who could not insure there car.
TU-Tuning
22nd November 2006, 22:43
Id say 18 or over was about right, 21 is stupid.
Luke
22nd November 2006, 22:45
Yeah exactly. Amount of times I got refused insurance when I bought the VTR because I wasn't over 21.

22nd November 2006, 22:50
hey buddy im with quinn direct, thats a good quote but remember you musnt modify it.... its one of there contract points just warning ya or it will invalidate ya insurance see quote below off there site:
"No modifications/adaptations to increase top speed, performance or acceleration"
MrWest
22nd November 2006, 23:54
so i wouldnt be alloud to lower it?
Baz
22nd November 2006, 23:57
you can lower it yes.
was that quote fully comp or what?
quotes i get on a furio are rediculous!
1 and half years driving exp with 3 points on a furio is £2.4k
£2k without 3 points, gutted

Sounds a good quote to me. I found my old college diary the other day from when I was getting quotes on my first car and I was quoted £2400 for a VTR at 17 :fcuk:
So I got the Nova SR which was £789 then bought the VTR at 18 when it had gone down to £715 fully comp
But yeah alot of companies are moving the age bracket to 21 to insure a VTR now. I got quotes with Tesco at 18 and 19 then when I was 20 they wouldn't insure me because I wasn't 21
MrWest

the quote is tpft, does everyone think a saxo with 85k too much, or does it still have life in it?
ada
23rd November 2006, 00:09
I'm 17 and I'm insured in my VTR fully comp for £740. Mums name.
I also have a high miled car, 111k to be exact, actually almost 112k but still runs well. Touch wood.

Mines on 78k now and its 7 years old. That is average mileage for its age. It was high mileage when I got it but i've averaged it out because I've only done 22k in the last 3 yrs. Most of the miles before I got it were motorway miles though so not necessarily a bad thing.
I think mine has plenty of life in it yet (I hope! I've probably jinxed it now lol) As long as it's been looked after it shouldn't be a problem. Mine had FSH so I knew it had been serviced regulary etc

Lush, if stuff does go wrong with high millage, what kinda stuff normally goes, and how much does it cost to fix.

You could find a better VTR for the money. When i was lookin for my sax it had to be:
Low Milage
Posi Blue
Not a scratch on it
Not owned (and caned) by a teenager
Not modified at all (another sign it could have been ragged)
If you are patient you will get what you want... I did :-)
Oh and that is a well good price for insurance!!!
MrWest
23rd November 2006, 11:41
I think i might go and look at it on saturday, IF it is nice, ill make an offer..

i had a vtr when i was 17 and was insured with quinn, have now bought a vts and am still with quinn and im 20 next month, lady i deal with told me that had i been a new customer with them i wouldnt have got insured on the vts, i only got it because i was with them 2 years! so posi westcoast is right!
MrWest
23rd November 2006, 19:18
oh, what... but i got a quote from them.. does that mean if i buy it and then when im 17 phone up, they wont insure me?
ada
23rd November 2006, 19:45
Some companies do that, or add other charges, I got a £500 quote and jumped at it, so I rang them to confirm it, they added £200. Get it as soon as you can. That's dirt cheap, so far.
MrWest
23rd November 2006, 20:29
