ok forgot what it's called but what is the difference between...

normal unleaded
and..
ultra unleaded or optimax unleaded (the stuff that a little bit dearer) ?

whats the diff and can they both be used in petrol engines ?

different octane numbers... harder to activate... therefore less likelihood of pre ignition.

they contain additives to clean the engine and fuel system out.

Yup can be used in any petrol engine.

Cutting it short, its a better quality fuel, Im still not convinced that there is
any difference in performance at all.
Its stated that there will but all regular cars are made to run on normal RON
fuel. The optimax (there is a newer one now but forget the name) is a higher
RON fuel. It makes a difference in much higher tuned cars I beleive.

Some cars (imprezas for example) need to be run on this fuel, lower RON values
will ruin their engines.

Our cars are fine on normal fuel, the only benifit things like optimax offer are
cleaning additives to us.

This is a great site that explains it all:

these high performance engines are usually mapped for these higher RON fuels.

Paxo's on the otherhand arent. 95 and 97 are what the ECU can efficiently run.

A remap is available if you want to run it on higher octanes.

ok when my mate had his saxo he spent alot on it and he used to use the better stuff all the time along with a can of that power boost stuff. that was everytime he filled his tank.... he spent stupid money on his car.

I have to admit I only use these higher ocatane fuels.
As i mentioned I know there is no difference but its nice to know that
I spend that little bit more on the car.

If better is available I try to go for it.

That power boost stuff looks like crap though lol.

i agree but he thought... he'd spent so much modding the car it's pointless getting the shit petrol when you can get better, and he thought again why spend so much if something small can help so he bought the power boost stuff. weather it did help or not i dont know.

i tend to notice that the bp optimax runs better than the normal stuff, bit smoother.

but the v power from shell (99 octane) seems abit shit to me....dunno weather its just to high for my car........

welcome to the world of 'clever' marketing then.

If you are happy knowing you are spending more money than you need to on fuel then well done.
Normal fuels and the occasional fuel additive will give you the same results for less dosh.

So would you say it helps to have a tank of optimax every now and then to clean it out?

No?

No?

no point putting just 1 tank in as it will mix with the petrol left and rejuce the octane points so wont be doing anything

if you put 3 or 4 tanks in it might make a diffrence dont expect miricales

I personally dont bother with the expensive fuel on the Saxo, on the other hand I would never use it for my 2 stroke racing bikes. I do put additivies on the petrol from time to time though.

normal fuel from a decent supplier will be no problem.

Go to a supermarket then they'll lack some ofthe additives of the fuel retailers. therefore you should put in some fuel additive every 5 tanks or so.

Optibollocks or V-bollocks - is great(ish) for a modern, high power engine. but on a saxo you're been conned. Do your research before believing a load of expensive marketing tat.

I think its better for the car and its suppose to be used on high performance cars.
