This was the latest Detail,A very nice Mondeo ST Tdi:

http://njsr.org/pics/albums/userpics/11360/normal_Picture%20081.jpg

The car arrived very clean already but looks can be deceiving as it had alot of bonded contaminants, the clay bar looked like this after a door and a half:

http://njsr.org/pics/albums/userpics/11360/normal_Picture%20082.jpg

this was AFTER I had applied Tar & Glue remover to the car, which is normally very effective!

Once inside and under the lights, the defects could easily be seen:

http://njsr.org/pics/albums/userpics/11360/normal_Picture%20089.jpg

bad enough but not that bad compared to some details i've done recently! :D

As the Blackfire Finishing Polish has done the job on the last few cars with substantially worse swirls and cob-webbing i decided to go with this again, so here's the full process and the after pics which follow:

Wash:

- Poorboys S&S through the gilmour
- Rinsed with the Karcher
- Poorboys S&S through the gilmour again and then washed with 2 buckets and Meguiars lambswool wash mitt.
- Rinsed with Karcher
- Wheels cleaned with plain shampoo and water, Meguiars wheel brush and MF Mitt
- Autosmart T&G remover
- Clayed with Meguiars Detailing Clay
- Dried with Poorboys Waffle Weave

Polish:

- Taped with 3434
- Blackfire SRC Finishing Polish, Meguiars polishing pad via Rotary @1500rpm (twice on the bonnet and roof)
- Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic Prime, LC glazing pad via PC @speed 5
- Jeffs Werkstatt Acrylic Jett x 2
- Wheels - Acrylic Jett
- Tyres - Blackfire Long Lasting Tyre Gel
- Trim - Chemical Guys Trim Gel
- Glass - Meguiars NXT glass cleaner

Unfortunately no full outside shots as it was dark by the time i'd finished (shock!)

anything from 2 to 4 a week, sometimes we have the car over night, can see it being 1 a day soon enough though :)

I very rarely use the PC on details now, it takes too long to remove the deeper scratches as it doesnt have the same power as the Rotary, you'd be doing well to go through the paint with the PC unless you were using a 4" pad and the likes of Power Gloss :)

I just meant that when we do a repair we obviously paint over the original finnish. So does that give you false readings when seeing how much you have to work with as there will be so many different layers etc.

hesslevtr
30th November 2006, 16:21
it wouldnt be a false reading as he will be able o tel it has more paint then other pannels so will know it has been painted

As hessle says, we can gauge how much paint there is to play with, and its no different on the panels we know that have been re-sprayed :)

£20 an hour, you're looking at around 8-10 hours to do a saxo.

£200 is cheap for what some detailers charge, you get what you pay for and we are providing a very specialised service, not just anybody can do it, so i think £20 an hour is more than fair....

yes it includes tools and materials.
