is it the cover or the actual mechanical joint? Just the cover can be done uber cheap. Sometimes works out cheaper to replace the whole shaft depending on whats wrong

no had the cover re-fitted a few months back, but on full lock, it just slips off the joint and allows the grease to escape, now its been doing that for the last few months, and as a result the joint has dried up and its now fooked! i only noticed the other week when i fitted my new brake discs!!
S34MER

so what do we reckon then! around £40 for a new joint!?
Scott

ill hazard a guess that a new shaft will be cheaper. I was quoted £150 discounted rates to repair my cv joint, new shaft for £90...

cheers scott, i can get it all fitted for free as a favour im owed, by a mate at a local garage, but i just needed to know how much parts were!

citroen offered to replace the joint on mine for £155 with free grease then i pulled out a reciept from the preious owner who had the same drive shaft done at that garage 3 months before for £162 so i said how can you charge that much?
i was told its best to get a new driveshaft althought it is the rubber seal leaking on mine, not sure if it has a rip but now seeing yours leaks on full lock it might not have a rip.
might replace the seal.
where can i get the part from? if you go in pictures search day down the pit (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53001)the photos are in there of mine :hijack: ;)

Sorry S34MER,
Stevey, what was wrong with your inner boot in that pic? I found that both of mine were torn open a while ago, bought the parts to fix but ran out of time before its MOT so a guy me dad knows (mechanic) fitted them for me, but the silver part seems to be able to slide a few centimeters away from the gearbox alowing it to leak oil.
Looks like gearbox oil in your in those pics?
Did u find out what it was / how to fix it and did u do it yourself?
Could PM me ur answers so we dont ruin s34mers thread!
cheers :santa:

citroen said its got a rip in it! and most places are saying best just too fit a new driveshaft as the replaceables ones are well... wank in other words :panic:. someone from the NE group said they could do the job.... Might have a go at it myself if i can find the right parts.
Can anyone help me out? ;)

the rubber seal around the CV joint directly behind my wheel seems to be sipping, and on full lock exposes a 5mm gap everytime its on full lock! as a result its now dried out and needs a new one!

Also since im squatting in your thread i might aswell try to help out, are you after a new boot or wanting to replace the whole shaft?
Its a bit of a task to replace the boot but if its just because its drying up it might be worth getting a new boot from EURO Parts or something and fitting it yourself. The kits come with greese etc too :xmas_wink:

grease i can pick up from my mate who works at the garage, and fitting is also no prob, im just wondering am i better off buying a whole new shaft of will it be better to buy just the joint as thats all thats gone on it!

yeh, are the end of the boots jubilee (or such) clipped or does the rubber just hold itself on?
Sounds like you could squirt some greese in and re clip it?

i did tht at the garage the other week, but like i said every time it goes on full lock, it exposes a small gap between the rubber and the joint, allowing grease to escape!
Scott

what are you using to hold the boot on?
S34MER
9th December 2006, 14:33
i had it clipped the other week with a proper clip i managed to scrounge from citroen, then when i came to fit new discs the other day, noticed it had come off, so its on with a jubilee clip atm!
