View Full Version : Pulling Up Carpets! Orange Cable?
Steve
9th December 2006, 23:09
tomorrow i am going to pull out my carpets to try and solve my leak and dry them out.....
What is the orange cable which runs under the carpet to the seat? is it ok to disconnect it if needs be.....
Is it straight forward taking the carpet out or is it a proper bitch? :afro:

The orange cable goes to the pre-tensioner on the seat belts
Part of the air bag safety system
Disconnect the battery just to be on the safe side
Disconnect the orange cable from the seat belt clip, then you can remove the seats
The carpet aint too bad - you just have to cut a bit in the middle around the dash - you'll see when you get to that bit ;)

undo the bat and let the capcitors loose charge for 10 mins
undo the seat nuts and all other nuts e.g back bench and seatblet rails
then unclip the clips under the seat with a flat bladed screwdriver (you will see what i mean)
by undoing the nuts first u can tilt the seat for better access

Best to disconnect it and leave for about 30 minutes just to be safe though id say.

double davies yea iv herd that 2..... but the most common is.......
when the airbags go off and a passenger, driver of the car is sick then the airbag goes down and acts like a bowl.. or it seaps in through the de flation holes...... now thats mingin! remember we had a tt in that had happend in once..... i was nearly sick at the site of it

Lol you need a firearms license to legally handle em so you should be pretty careful really. Just reminded me of whne my mate fired a shotgun and held it like a rifle. Was like that scene from men in black, fookin funny

Sorry expalined that badly, basically rested it on top of his shoulder, kinda pinned down onto his shoulder by the side of his head lookin down the barrels like a scope. So he flew a fair way. Bit of a stupid bloke.

back on topic mate. like people have said disconnect the battery leave for a while and unplug the pretensioners dont worry there not that scary.
never heard of needing a firearms licensce to handle airbags i deal with them very often and i havent been told that, by the way i work for durham police so if it was a serious matter i'm sure we would have had the proper paperwork?
but like i said stevey dont be scared and leave the carpet out get that thing stripped. u know it makes sense

if u remove the seat belts pull them out about 4 or 5 inches and tie a big knot otherwise the belt will recoil and lock therefore makin it useless from experience i know this. leave it out its fun. u've seen mine and the other rallye!
