Hi,

I have a 1993 fiesta 1.3 and I'm looking to get a Saxo vtr, I'm sure they are the same insurance group and I won't be modifying it so shouldn't I pay the exact same premium as I'm already paying? Assuming that I just get it carried over from my fiesta? If not, then whats the difference?

By the way, it makes no sense to me either? Possibly because the fiesta is about as sturdy as a tin can and is the target of thieves everywhere?

Im sorry about that didnt expect that from a 1.3 Fiesta 5 door???!! thats absolutly mad, although they are the same insurance group you may get charged a little more for the saxo because of there reputation,

the best thing to do is get a quote before hand and see how much they say it cant be that much difference i should think but then again the Fiesta Zetec S Is group 8 Insurance but most quotes come out cheaper than the Group 7 VTR

Strange

You might find that insurance companies don't completely rely on the "insurance groups" method. The thing to do is give them a call and see what the additional premium (if any) you are to pay.

Its got to be because theyre piss easy to rob (my ones been stolen before) and about as sure-footed as pete doherty, specially in the rain. I've been considering a ZetecS too, bit more expensive to buy tho :( I hate being 19 lol

There isn't much difference (BHP wise) between the VTR's and the Zetec-S's. Very disappointing considering one has eight more valves.

Imo the VTR would win hands down in any shape or form against the ZS. Yes I know this is a Saxo forum and I would be biased but after seeing and being in my brothers ZS, I wasn't very impressed.

When cars are that closely matched it's more down to to driver skill and road conditions I would say (not saying that your a bad driver). Subtle mods would help I suppose but you can't really say.

just phoned my broker and they said that it would cost 278.20 more (1178 with 250 excess, ZetecS was the same) they also said they rate both cars as group 12?! But thats because of the aforementioned boy racer status. Not bad I think!

Group 12? You're having a laugh? The VTS is only group 14!!! Haha!

Parkers guide. Dont trust any info on there i wouldnt. Not when talking about insurance companys. They wont even look at parkers.

Insurances groups 1-20 are just there to give you a rough idea. Some do use them yes but many dont. I work for a insurance company and its done on a basis of 11-99. Not 1-20. Not just based on power or 0-60 times. Gotta take into account parts availability n pricing and how desirable a car is aswell. Many different things.

I had the exact same thought when trying to change from a pug 205 to a VTR both group seven. Phoned ASDA my insurance company and they said they dont insure any driver under 21 on a VTR. If definitely DOES NOT go on the insurance group.

I decided to get a furio instead, group 5 and even that is an increase of £90 from the pug 205.

Im pretty sure it goes on the Value, Age, BHP of the car as well as how many claims they have had on that model of car recently.

Hope this helps
