...had the car in definately axle thats gone. On the back passenger side theres about 10mm movement in the joint.

Is it possible to change only bushes? or full new axle needed?
Garage mentioned possibly a 2nd hand one?
Need to get it sorted quickly,

Cheers

it's impossible to answer 100% whether you only need new bushes, as it depends whether the mounting point has been worn due to the excessive play. only way to tell is to take the arm off. new axle would possibly be less hassle though, around £120-£150 from a breakers.

Unlucky! When this happened to me citroen said £350 if its fixable and £1200 if it needs a new axle. I found a cheaper backstreet garage and the mechanic i spoke to seemed to know the crack about torsion bars - he could tell wether it needed an axle by just rocking the wheel. he told me that unless you get the bearing changed prety much straight away when theres only a tiny bit of play (when you can barely notice it anyway) you will need a new axle.
So from my experience i would recomend just getting a whole new axle from a breakers. They are like golddust i must have rang about 30 scrapyards! in the end i found one on some internet parts finder a breakers in norwich (citren i think) sent me one for £130+50 postage though ive seen one go on ebay for £320
Any axle with discs will fit vtr, vts, 106gti, and make sure you get a guarentee as some dodgey scrappys will sell you a nackrd one.
They are easy to fit - only 4 bolts and 2 brake hoses

hi there,i may be able to help you ,i do these up in my spare time ,i have one in at the moment that i,m stripping down to repair .i can replace the main pins that the arms fit on [citreon don,t do this repair they just sell you a new axle beam]i have to get them made then i press them out and the new ones in ,new bearing seals and rebiuld .pins + bearing and seals come to £250/£270

there is quite a bit of play in the wheel when its on the ground and even more unsupported on the ramp at the garage.
It will need done for this week as well because the MOTs up.

Yeah defo get a new axle! Some backstreet garages will say they can fx it and put a new bearing in and it will just break again! just get an axle from a scrappy and get a backstreet garage to fit it for you if you dont have the confidance to do it youself!
One of my mates was told it could be fixed for about 300... so he took it in and a few days later he got a phone call sayin it will be £900!

Actually if you can i would try and get whoever supplys the axle to fit it - then if they fit a dodgey one you can take it back

Going to ring him up this morning been busy over the weekend.
He says he can fix it but hasn't said what he's doing and how much!
Last thing he told me was that he was looking for a 2nd hand axle
we'll see :panic:

Unlucky mate, happened to my old Saxo before I crashed it.
New axle can cost a small fortune, best to an idea of exactly what you
need (axle, new bearings or a whole new rear setup!)

Then get your hands on a front end saxo's axle bits.
Some places can actually refurb the rear setup (torsion bars, axles, bearings,
ARBs etc etc)

finally got an axle :clapping:
it came off a W plate gti and done 66k, pleased with it.

just thinking would it be worth refurbing the one thats coming off my car?
i.e replacing the bushes when i get chance and selling it on?
or would anyone be interested in taking it as it is does anyone think?

i changed mine recently cuz the bearings were fook passenger side on mine, cost me 120 from local breaker and took me an afternoon off work to fit, hardest bit was getttin the brake pipes off the compensator without rounding the nuts off!
