Just wondering if there are any sprinters milling around here? I do the 100m and I am looking to start my pre-season fairly shortly by getting in the gym and doing some endurance work like 200m reps as well as the usual explosive 30m sprint work.
I've also been looking at supplements and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on Maximuscle creatamax extreme? Creatine looks to be a good supplement for sprinting as it increases the explosive performance of your muscle but I don't want to overly bulk up as I am only 5ft7. Should I take this in collaboration with a protein supplement as well or can I just sort that out with my diet (egg whites, chicken etc.)?
Cheers,
Dan :y:

as your only 16 your diet should reflect your training and i would advise you away from supplimets. you need to train your fast twitch fibres as you know over 30, 40, 50 and 60m and rest for 3 - 5 minutes.TBH you will be better looking at your posture, balance and propreoception work in the gym! look at your foot action and remember being fast means relaxed and flowing, do not pump your arms high or run on your toes!!
worry about your training rather than suppliments!

i run for britain in the 400m hurdles dude.
creatine is just water retention, will cause dehydration and cramps.
also to do full on speed work you would want longer recovery than has been stated above. if you are prepairing for indoors, you should be doing alot of speed work and block work, with long rest inbetween.
200m reps will be good for strength, as would over distannces like 300m.
technically theres so much to look into aswell.
i wouldnt advise weights to someone of your age

Thanks dude, that is pretty impressive mate! I'm sort of formulating my training program at the moment. My basic speed and technique are pretty good, it's just my fitness and strength over the last 40m which lets me down. Last season I ran 11.8 but based on my 40m and 60m times I should have been running more like 11.4 or so, hence why I want to do 200reps etc.
I am going to do limited gym work I think but defintely not with the aim of bulking up; just a steady and all round increase of my strength. I also don't want to do too many weights since I am still growing and quite a few people I know have screwed themselves up by way over doing it which is something I have to bear in mind.

thats a good idea.
im 21 and am only into my first real winter fo 3x weight sessions a week.
i dont touch machines, its all free stuff, so when you move onto weights this is the best way.
increasing in strength itself with running, you will basically be wanting to have strong hips down the last part of the race, and be able to maintain relaxed in the upper body and have high knee lift.
overdistance is as i said the best way, pyramid sessions rule :D
www.brianmac.demon.uk irc is a good site.
you should work with body weight if doing anything, in circuits etc... you wouldnt believe how many athletes i know who cant even support their own body weight.
feel free to pm me at all about traininig etc..

i use Ultralife they make loads of different types, but got for the Ultra Max or the Ultra Max + if your hardcore. its just full of 35.52 kcal's of energy in one serving, i usally have 2 servings in a pint glass, and it does the job for me when i play footy!
