Luke

I presume you have not declared everything on insurance? It won't effect the insurance in the slightest by the way.

If you were doing 40, it will be £60 fine and 3 points on your licence.

drew
17th December 2006, 22:27
poop!
how long do they last

Luke
17th December 2006, 22:36
This is taken from a website mate.

'How long will the points stay on my licence?
Points will stay 'live' on your licence for 3 years from the date of the offence, although they will appear on your licence for 4 years'.

Luke
17th December 2006, 22:37
Remember though, not every camera has a film in it, so also read this that I got off the website.

Registered keepers of vehicles photographed by Safety Cameras exceeding the speed limit will receive a Notice of Intended Prosecution through the mail, these will be sent from the office within 14 days of the alleged offence. In most instances, as an alternative to prosecution, you will be offered a Fixed Penalty Notice of a £60 fine and three penalty points endorsed on your licence. This penalty must be paid within 28 days of the Fixed Penalty Notice being issued. It is not possible to pay a higher penalty to avoid the penalty points.
If your speed is above a certain limit you may be prosecuted in court where you will be fined and have your driving licence endorsed, or you may be disqualified from driving.
A total of 12 penalty points on your licence within 3 years means that you will have to appear in court and you will be disqualified from driving for a minimum of 6 months. You are able to argue against disqualification if you feel you can establish mitigating circumstances.
In Scotland, the necessity to drive in order to do your job is not regarded as mitigating circumstances.
If you are a new driver and you accumulate 6 penalty points or more within 2 years of passing your test, your driving licence will be revoked by DVLA Swansea and you will have to retake both the theory and practical test.

look, what i have done which works. it depends if you want to take the chance.. the first thing they do is send you 1 letter, ignore it... they will send another one 3 weeks after ther first.. ignore that aswell, then the 3rd letter comes about a week after.. saying if you dont send this one back they will do court procedings yada yada yada.. what i did was ignored that one.. i got my speeding ticket in june saying i did 46MPH in 30 .. i have heard nothing as of yet.. its been about 6 motnhs now..

from what i heard.. it could only be rumours.. they send 3 letters out.. after that they will only catch up on a few people.. like a handfull.. if your lucky they wont pick you.. and also... yes you will get fucked eventually.. but i like my odds.. lol

saxonutter
17th December 2006, 22:40
Also they cant give you points intill you sign a letter admitting you have done something.. and it doesnt say it on your license aswell.. intill they do whatever they do...

Luke
17th December 2006, 22:41
Is it really worth taking the risk though?

I personally wouldn't like to mess about if I were caught speeding, my licence is too important.

saxonutter
17th December 2006, 22:42
mehh if they say why did i not respond.. i just say i moved house.. and they sent the letters to the wrong address... also what i heard is that it costs them too much money to take the thing to court.. so if you ever do get caught say it wasnt you it was someone else... blah blah blah.. well i mean all im saying is i got 46 in 30 in june... and till now i have nothing?

Luke
17th December 2006, 22:44

yer i know lol very. dont suppsoe you know if theres like an expiration date on the gatso speed camera.. you know if like after 12 months or so the evidence is not valid any more lol ? perhaps?

if u get ur going to get fucked over cause where have been living should all be on record because it is illegal to move house and not inform the dvla!! so either ur gettin shafted if they catch up with u.

rushy_23
17th December 2006, 22:46
I got done doing 41 in a 30. 3 points and £60 fine.
Nothing else happened.

Mostly likely mate the fine will come through and thats thats, fingers crossed
the camera wasnt loaded or it was just a dud lol

Luke
17th December 2006, 22:48
No, it will never be wiped clear.

Police are like elephants, they have a long memory (remember the Dumbo advert years ago). Basically if you get pulled for anything in the future, they will run a check on you and it will come up with an outstanding speeding ticket - so sooner or later they will get you.

saxonutter
17th December 2006, 22:49
Well what i was saying is i got flashed by a gatso.. doing 46 in 30 MPH.. they sent me 3 letters.. and then nothing happened that was 6 months ago..

saxonutter
17th December 2006, 22:49
yer i guess your right.. but i mean if oyu already have 3 i would suggest this just to prolong the speeding ticket and the points.. eventually leading to banning..

my dad was flashed on the same one, but he was just over 30!
- do they take into consideration how far over? - i no your allowed so much over due to wind and sh*t like that!!!

Luke
17th December 2006, 22:58
It's 10% plus 1 I think mate.

So 30 + 10% is 33 + 1 = 34mph.

gibs-rallye
17th December 2006, 23:01
thats if ur lucky. i'd rather get caught by a traffic car as they can choose on circumstances and what not a camera just takes the pic and ur fucked.

saxo nutter - one day there going to catchup with u i'd rather hold my hands up straight away and deal with it.

I would just take what they give you, if you ignore letter and get taken to court then they'll probably reclaim the money for that from you and also give you a higher fine and maybe more points for fucking them around. Just my opinion though, it's up to you what you do.

Craig_the_frog
18th December 2006, 00:00
Saxonutter I would recomend you dont say anymore about it and unless you used gps for your speed take about 5 mph off the clock speed and Saxonutter all it takes is one day for them to run the cars number and it will show.
you cant write driver unknown on it or anything else because the owner of the car will get the points

Craig_the_frog
18th December 2006, 00:06
also the can back date the points so if your trying to avoid the points to pass your 2 years it wont work it counts from the date they send the letter to you

is anyone else insured on your car? i heard that if you say you dont know who was driving the car or something they cant give you the points as there is no evidence to who was driving.... not sure if thats true or not or if it works but its a thought.

I know that bit of road well as i used to live in Sunniside...

The reason they put that camera there in the first place was to slow people down, as over the years there's been LOTS of crashes there.....

Since they've put up the camera it's greatly reduced the amount of accidents....

Normally i HATE speed camera's, but for once i do support that one being there....

Cause it's one that's triggered very often, you may be lucky and the camera may be out of film....

Fingers crossed eh?? :)

Use to be the case but now if there is any confusion the owner gets the point

actually that is not correct. If the owner of the vehicle cannot identify the person who was driving the vehicle at the time and they have requested graphical proof and still cannot identify the driver but has been seen to make enough effort in identifying the correct driver of the vehicle then the cases are dropped.

So in England if you need your car to get to Uni or work or anything you'll be safe?

So in England if you need your car to get to Uni or work or anything you'll be safe?

not an excuse, if you need your licence to work e.g. HGV driver or taxi driver etc then you may get a way with a bigger fine and less points.

MrBirdPoo
19th December 2006, 01:31
Mmm...seems odd for an HGV driver, I knwo if they get done for Dangerous Driving that's it....no more HGV license...ever.

Please dont go by what them letters say

I also heard if they cannot identify the driver the owner of the car gets the points.

If your cought speeding and you say you wasnt driving and you cannot identify the driver the police will ask was the car stolen, if so why have you no reported it and why is it outside your house ect ect....

ok Ladies and Gents called up the RAC legal advice and this is what they said:
yes you can fight a speed camera ticket if you can prove you wouldnt know who was driving. the guy told me of a case where a man and wife swaped driving through out the day they used thing like phone bills and credit cards to prove that they swaped. if you can prove the fine and points go to the keeper of the car bike ect. and I asked about this job thing straight answer was its only for paramedic units because really they have no right to speed even if they have there blue lights on.

sorry for any mistakes

i wouldn't care, theres been three occasions up our way, where i've been behind a police car, and i've been doing dead on 30 (in a 30) and they've obviously been pushing it!

well obviously you would say that you don't know who was driving it (with) your permission at the time and there are a number of people it could be.

I wouldn't do that but some people do.

quick question...

if someone on a push bike was to blitz past and manage to trigger the camera, what then? - i know it's stupid, and it wouldn't be followed up, but it's one of those what if scenarios!!!

what if 'the biz' decided to 'speed gun' a bike and they were past the limit (while on the road) are they liable for prosecution???

hesslevtr
20th December 2006, 22:10
i doubt any normal person would on a noral everyday bike would be able to hit 30 mph unless it was down a cliff

Luke

It's possible to get more than 30mph on a straight, I did it and ripped my knee open but that's another story.

I don't know the answers, maybe google it.

I got pulled over by the local BMW 5 series. Silver, no lary paint, so big light on the top.... one of the undercover trafic cops.... he was giving me the lecture about how someone could walk out of a pub at this time of night and i could run them down... he was not impressed when he looked and saw i wasn't actually listening to a word he said, and i was too busy looking at/pressing loads of buttons in his car..... 7 days to turn up at the butchers with my mot, licence etc.. etc.. then 28 days to pay my 60 quid..... and then told my insurance about my points......

I don't get away with anything :(

Can I run this by yous...

(and this is quite true)

Something is wrong with my brakes (not extremely serious at the minute), and the bias seems to be at the front. My handbrake reaches the end of its travel.
When driving down the hill - past the camera - i tried to brake, however, my brakes did not seem to function properly, preventing me from slowing adequatly!

After experiencing this, (and being flashed) I have since taken my car a garage, as soon as was possible, where I had new brakes (front and back)

I also have the receipts for this work!

40 in a 30 is a lot just accept your points and fine, that bullshit you wrote there wont get you off it is telling the police that you was speeding and you attempted to brake jsut befor the speed camera but failed to slow down due for faulty braked which you knew about thus you was driving a dangerous and faulty car which could lead to a bigger ass wooping by the police.

hahaha show that to the police and 1) they'll laugh at you and 2) they'll ask you what the hell you were doing driving a car you knew had faulty brakes.
anyway, what you say doesn't make any sense- front brakes on the saxo do around 85% of the braking anyway so it should feel front biased. but then you go on to say that you're brakes felt like they weren't working? Which is it? Take the points and learn your lesson.

we were asked, regardless of the law, what speed we would be prepared to travel on different types of road. He got on to a 30MPH road - past a housing estate, and when he asked this old dude, he goes:

"Well I think it's perfectly acceptable to drive at 60 in a 30 as long as its late at nite!"

and everyone like, turned round in their seat :-O

and he started havin mental breakdowns, sayin "i am now frightened to drive my own car, because i'm not confident in myself anymore"
