you can pretty much with all nowadays, as long as they have got the output sockets. e.g. red and white sockets

can you use a head unit to power a sub without an amp do you mean?

Then the answer is no, unless it was one of the worst subs ever and had an 18wrms rating

A sub will have a maximum of around 50 watts wouldn't it scott, by far not enough to make a sub work anywhere near loud enough to cause any bass?

If you have a set of pre-outs on the back of your unit (red and black plugs) then you can run a sub.

What you may not be able to do is make changes to the sound of the sub and change the volume of it unless you have sub-control on the unit.

If you dont then you will need to make all the adjustments on the amp itself. Can be a bit of a pain as you will need to keep going back and forth to wherever your amp is. Still possible though:y:

Hope this helps

maximum figures are gayer than your scarves dan

rms figures are the ones to look at

and if a headunit gave out 50 watts for a sub, it would be fried

having pre outs means you can run signal to an amp, not run a sub i,e, you cant hook the rca leads to the sub terminals

I assumed he had an amp or at least knew he would need one, in any case it maybe that he has an active sub so the rca leads will be going straight to the sub:homme:

Guess we need the bigger picture though:p

What headunit is it? If it's the stock one then the answer is "no".

as said above, standard one wont give you the connections you need.:n:

if you spend kinda £60 upwards on a branded aftermarket one you will tend to find that you will get a set of pre-outs. (check the for sale section). The more you spend the more pre-outs you tend to get and more control over the sub :y:

as above, that will work fine:y:

dosent look like it has sub control on it so you will need to make all your adjustments on the amp.

just takes a bit more setting up
