View Full Version : What would you do?

Have recently been considering selling my Saxo VTR and buying something bigger and unmoddified like a Seat Leon / Astra or Vectra.
Im in 2 frames of mind about it, i can get insurance much cheaper on other cars and sometimes the Saxo is fun to drive and other times a pain!
I have been offered a good price for my car already and its worth alot more now than it will be if i keep it and sell it at a later date....
What would you do? Sell it or keep it? ..... Im getting bored of it but im not sure if thats because i havnt modified it for quite awhile or what. Im also getting fed up of the image i get for driving a 'Boy Racers' car and the fact people only ever want to sit in car parks and talk every night .....
Dare i say it.... do you grow out of saxos and modifying cars? and realise they are poor quality cars.... i feel i should be doing something more useful with my life than spending all my money on modifiying a saxo and sitting in car parks all the time attracting 15 year old girls lol Because the older women (19 - 22) dont seem to like modified cars and see it as a teenager thing and say your immature!

thats your problem right there.
TBH...you car will give that image. Big loud exhuast, Tinted windows and after market wheels.
Why not remove the tints, Subtle exhaust and get some standard wheels on. I have no problem with people giving me attitude or getting slated a boy racer as my car is far from it, its just styled in a different way.
and the fact people only ever want to sit in car parks and talk every night ....
I own one and i havtn stat and chilled in a carpark for 2 years. Maybe thats down to the croud you hang around with in your spare time?

Haya Mate,
to be honest its up to you i have a standard VTS only mods are engine ones and i dont get people calling me a boy racer and where i live there are alot of s**t chav'd up saxo's about the place. As for sitting in car parks all night that is the people you hand about with not the car you got.
I'd say keep the saxo as you'll miss it when ya driving one of them others about the place.

Sounds like your part fo the problem rather than just the car. Sitting in car parks is not the cars fault same with spending all your money modifiying a saxo, it doesnt have to be modified?
I drive my saxo to work everyday and park between a porsche and an X5. Doesnt bother me what other people think and everyone here knows im not a "boy racer" just because of what i drive, the lad with the porsche drop top isnt a hair dresser either.
Sounds to me like you would buy a leon 1.4 (from your previous budget in other thread) then you would be labelled as old and boring so you would then worry about that
DarylVTR
21st December 2006, 11:34
Yer valid points.... I just dont know. I cant be bothered with the hassle of swapping everything back to standard when i know i can make money how it looks now without touching it.
What other cars are there out there that are £2500ish ? If i put a standard backbox on it and a few other bits i think it might piss me off less but its juggling with money then if i regret it, it would be too expensive to get it back to how it was...
Leon would be a 1.9TDI

but you dont like it how it is now so what do you have to lose?
Sorry i mean you not happy with how it is now.

it does look nice, but getting the wrong impression to other people, if i take tints off thats £160 down the toilet, backboxes are worth nothing and my alloys i just spent £250 on new tyres

Look at it this way bud, no matter the car you get you're still going to do what you usually do.
I used to go and chill out in places with my mates before any of us could drive. Once me and my mates started passing our tests we used to go to the same places and chill out like we used to but no walking, with music and in the warmth of a car.
We realised what we were doing every night - every Friday to Sunday and decided to do something about it. Now we go out clubbing, go to the cinema, go to Q, the pub, what ever we can do just to get out and chill.
So what I guess I am saying is it is all down to you.
DarylVTR
21st December 2006, 11:41
Yer it does come down to the people you get in with. I dont personally think my car is boy racer like ... a little noisy maybe and bumpy lol but other than that its a standard VTR . Its only been lowered with alloys and tints and few lil bits

most of my mates drive modded cars and not one of them sit in a carpark. Just because you have a modded car it doesnt mean you have to do so mate.

I cant image myself turning up for a Police interview (which i intend on doing) in my car put it that way lol Moddifying just seems to be related to young trouble makers now and i dont want to be seen as being 1. Car does to a degree give me this image but on the other hand it is what you do as a person i guess

mm i see you point but its the same for me as scott said...
I park next to range rovers HSE, 911, M5 all the big guys in IT and i get out of my Slammed Saxo.

Am i correct in saying girls who are a sensible age (I.e not 15 and 16) look at modifiying cars generally as a sad thing that you need to grow out of? :S Loads of people i have met have said 'Oh your a boy racer then or just generallly given me the wanker gesture)
Thinks that annoys me are build quality, comfort and stupid problems u only seen to get with a saxo..... maybe its time for a change, maybe it isnt .. Im not going to say its will make me more mature by moving on but i have just lost alot of interest.... used to be on sax-p everyday and my own website now maybe once a month if that and i turn down going to all the cruises

If a girl is only intrested in how flash the car is would you really want to be with the shallow bitch?
But like i said. You car does give off the modifed look tho mate. Dark tints, after market wheels and a big exhaust.

My saxo looks standard, it's really just the engine that's had work done to it...
You could always do what i did, and buy another car just for kicks... :)
I've got a nice little sleeper of a mini*, doesn't look like much but it's VERY quick** :)
Mick
*a real mini.. not one of these german imposters :)
**quicker than my saxo.

It sounds like you want a new car LOL.
As for more mature girls thinking modded cars are immature, what a load of cack! Look at all of the girls on this site!! My ex is 22 and drives a Golf VR6 which is standard (at the moment) before that she had a modded GTI6.

young person driving an modded car is classed as a boy racer,
young person driving a bmw classed as a little rich boy ect ect
you will always be classed as something what ever car you have !

21st December 2006, 13:01
TBH mate, i dont see why you give a sh*t that people label you as a boy racer just for modifying. Your car is yours, and as long as you're happy with it nothing else should matter.
i guess i look like a boy racer too but at the end of the day i drive sensibly (most of the time) and i'm fairly happy with my car and couldn't care less of what anyone thinks of me for driving it.
If i was you i'd maybe buy something else and modify it a little, there'll always be saxo's for sale if you missed it that much.

21st December 2006, 13:07
girls who are interested in you shouldnt be bothered about your car.
i couldnt care if a lass didnt like my car, but she does, shes 22 and she knows i spend money on my car but knows im no boy racer, far from it
as for sitting in car parks, your car aint herbie, it doesnt drive you places, you drive your car there and sit there, maybe get some friends that have lives?

I used to a vtr, then went a bit mad and bought a skyline, fuel, insurance and having to worry about giving it a 3k rebuild as its an old but powerfull car just put me right off, by then i was starting to miss my vtr anyway, so decided to go for the vts. Only got it yesterday and my god it truely is in a different legue to the vtr!
You will always get labelled through life, cant avoid it! The saxo does have a strong reputation for being a younge boy racer car, its up to you to proove people wrong (as it bothers you soo much) by using subtle modds :)
Tough one though mate i know what your saying, but trust me you will miss the saxo if you sell, i did like mad!
Just my 2p's worth hope you make the right decision for YOU!

good stuff
leons are exspensive though arent they?
id probly look at astras if i was you
DarylVTR
21st December 2006, 16:00
yer they are over my budget, Astras are not but they are all 5 door ....
I have a few options ...
1) Sell it and buy Astra / Vectra
2) Keep it and leave it alone
3) Change wheels over for VTR / VTS alloys (or silver aftermarket alloys), remove tints and add standard mudflaps back on as i liked those.

I cant image myself turning up for a Police interview (which i intend on doing) in my car put it that way
Dont see why not, i turned up at HQ driving mine with no problems and a high ranking officer telling me it looked nice.
Its only a car at the end of the day, its cheap to run with tax and petrol etc, Hundreds and thousands of people own a small hatchback for those reasons, i cant see many of those caring about being labelled.
I know i wont be changing mine in the near future, theres no need. Great lil car for what it is

i know how you feel bud, i was into the modding cars going out in the car park everyyyyyyy nite wasting money left right n ccentre i wanted a more grown up car, ended up getting a 2ltr gti so did that up, with the frame of mind of, i aint driving a chavved up 1.2 with a loud exhaust wishing it was fast, now i got a loud car but it is actually fast
first girl i met loved the car 2nd was like well your car is very loud so i was put off, same as another lass as i pulled a few 24 year olds (i was like 20) thats just got burnt out and i just worked out i spent like 1300£ on petrol from last june, on like 8 kmiles and outa 8k about 6 was actually just driving about cruising so wasted like 900£ over 6 months doing nothing, think iv grow nouta that now gonna have to get a sensible car due to insurance and wont be waste %80 of my wages on something im never gonna get it returned back in, prefer to go to town pubs and out to places,
think we all go through it young, want a fast car - always out - grow up realise how pointless sat in a car park actually is when theres so much more to do
life thread over

dude even if you get a leon, over time you will get bored and end up getting some after market wheels or something...
not matter what car i get next it's defo being slammed, it makes every car look and handle so much better (if lowered the right amount anyway)... all my mates get new cars every 2 months or something and there the same, they lower them within a week of getting them.
one of my mates has had 2 bmw's in last 6 weeks, and slammed both the day he got them. the newest 1 is soooo nice... 525 m5 lookalike it's smooth

daryl ive read both your threads and can totally relate to what your saying as i have had the same thoughts!
but when it comes down to it youve gotta wonder will the financial change be worth it?
higher insurance?
finance?
repairs and service etc?
mpg?
ive thought about moving away from the saxo a few times but the fact is in my case i dont have anything to pay on the car, mpg isnt too bad neither is performance and overall there is nothing really on the market id want to get into debt over.
another thought thhat has come to mind is to just make it more standard and just a car rather than a hobbie!

And ill tell you something for free: if you go into a police interview worried about what other people think of what you do, drive, say, look like. They will eat you alive and spit you right back out the door you came in.
