I think i could find a sub and amp just as good for half that price but if you have money to burn, go for it!

Yes it would, however I would seriously consider going for a ClassAB amp as IMO/IME they are much much better for SQ. If you want to save a bit then you could look at the SX series subs.
How much space have you got available? A 18 takes a fair amount of room.

RE is proberly the best stuff you can buy. Try and find a sub for half the price. Mind you the MTX 9500 is bloody good when amped correctly. Seen one in the local ice shop and it was moving over subs around it and making things fall off shelfs.

ok kool guys, mehmeh wot amp would u recommend?I've kind of shot myself in the foot becasue classABs that large do not come cheap, then again if you're going to spend that much on a sub it would be a crime to skimp on the amp.
Second-hand would most definately be my route, amps do not suffer wear and tear, as such, so you can pick up some hugely powerful amps for the money.

If you will then my first port of call would be a USamps 1000x, they are the daddies of ClassAB power. There was one for sale on talkaudio recently (may still be?) otherwise you're really looking at the US.
My second would be a MTX 942, these can be picked up from the US cheap at the moment as well.
Third would be a DLS A3.

Those three have basically the same specs with power ouput within 200Watts of each other.
There are of course others, like the Genesis DMX and SPL S6002 as well but prices vary.

You'll get a little more power for your money with Class D but I would prefer to run 200W ClassAB than 1000W ClassD as to my ears it sounds that much better. People get taken by power figures, this is fairenough if you're in to SPL, where the measured volume is all that counts. But for a daily listen it just doesn't cut it.
When I run 1kW Class AB it sounded louder (and certainly better / cleaner) than 2Kw in to the same sub, from a Class D amp.

My 1st choice would be a USamps 1000x, if you can get hold of one (they are getting pretty rare as people do not want to let go of them).
