Seasons Greeting's

Another pointless thread from the guy who brought you Bog Trolls and Toilet Attendants we now move on to 'What Is Chav'.

With this one i would mainly like to discuss 'Chav' and what defines a 'Chav'. Is it right to lable someone a 'Chav' because they happen to own a shirt that 'Chav's' like to wear. It goes further than shirt's and even as far as the car you drive such as the Saxo. It is hard these days being a none 'Chav' to avoid stumbling into something 'Chav' and being labled by association. I love my car and the clothes i wear suit my style but i cant help feeling a bit p****d off at being labled a 'Chav' because a select few idiots have taken to wearing certain clothes or driving the same make of car as me.
So what are your ideas on this, how do you avoid these stumbling blocks or react to being labled a 'Chav' by association. Your feedback on this is very much appreciated.

Tim

There are a few definitions of chavs as I know people who dont class themselves as a chav but imo they are.

Chav is an over-used word now. I think everyone has their own opinion on what a chav is thus there is no answer. IMO a chav is someone who tends to be youngish (not all the time) who hangs about the streets alot and drinks in parks, they tend to get cocky with passer bys, etc.. etc.. etc.

I think you know exactly what a chav is.

Are these people so blatantly 'Chav' that they just don't realise it ? Do they 'tick' more than one box to qualify as a being a 'Chav' ? what would you define as being 'Chav' ? i imagine it is lots of things they do that ammount to them being 'Chav' rather than just one ?

This is my deffinition of 'Chav' aswell. I also agree that the term is used way to much and to loosley now to be specific anymore. I happen to work in quite a deprived area and through the day see lots of totally genuine 'Chav's' and wasters. They roam the streets drinking and wasting their lives away causing untold damage to the community.
What annoyed me and made me start this thread was the fact i was jokingly refered to as being a 'Chav' by a friend because i own a couple of Henri Llyod and Fred Perry shirt's ? It struck a raw nerve to be honest because, as i say i see lots of real 'Chav's' day in and day out and know how bad real ones are. This is why i wanted to gather as many different oppinions on the subject as i could.

Chav's stand around corner shops (often with mountain bikes and massive pieces of gold plastered over them)......asking people to "borrow" a fag!

The older chav generation tend to drive like c*nts (often with no insurance in their £600 cars).....looking to pick up 14 year old females....innit

Robb

haha, souldn't you be saying that to whoever came up with the word chav? I think you think I came up with it myself? (which isn't true) I remember reading in the daily mail or some other newspaper about the new chav culture, the burberry etc along time before EVERYTHING was seen as 'chav'.

Personally I dont agree with it, as everything common nowadays is seen as chav...

Leo
23rd December 2006, 19:22
Didn't mean it aimed at you, just mean in general. Thing that make me laugh is that in 22 years i have not had any problems with chavs, even though theres lots around. And you ready about these lads and girls who get done over by chavs etc, yet they live in posh areas and expensive houses. Oh the irony tickles me

I think that was part of the reason behind me posting this thread. You see a lot of reference to 'Chav' on here but these are obviously about peoples cars which is to be expected with this being a car forum and everythin !! So i decided to discuss the 'Chav' image as a whole and see what you come up with.
I have to say that so far i have been really pleased with the response and some of the points that have been raised. Obviously those that have added their thoughts on the matter so far will get positive rep for their trouble :y: .

Thank you again..............

around my area there is plenty or chavs.

they mostly hang around outside amusments with there hats not even properly on and usally give any passer by a mucky look but in reality they are the ones who look a complete twat for trying to be hard when they aint most chavs have a big mouth but no proper actions to follow up with....

when chav first came on the scene it was a fashion statement i.e burbary hats pin stripped t-sirts (the ones golfers wear) now thats a point because golfers wear those same types of tops should we call them chavs to?????????????

if you drive a saxo you aint always called a chav your mostly called a boy racer which is nothing to do with been called a chav tbh.

at the end of the day if someone comes upto you and calls you a chav because you drive a saxo then its so simple really ask them what car they drive if its a nova for example then you can equally call them a chav to........

I personally think the word Chav is being mis used by most people these days. When the word chav first appeared it was to brand people such as Daniella Westbrooke and Jordan aka Katie Price. The people who were rich but had this attitude problem. They have no class as such.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d193/danredmond/katie1.jpg

That picture sums a chav up to me. There is no class about what she is wearing and she portrayes herself to be that kind of person.

What alot of people describe as a chav is what i personally would call a Pikey.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d193/danredmond/chav-30188.jpg

That is what i see alot of people consider a chav. But in my eyes, its not. These people are just twats in my eyes. They show all the signs of the typical council estate thug. I must say alot of people that live on council estates do so due to other reasons, they are cheaper and you can get more for your money which in some peoples eyes is a good thing :)

That girl just looks like the typical person you would see on the news that stabbed someone in school, no respect for anyone and just looks like a general lout.

My 2p anyway :)

I drive a saxo, i have a sub and i like RnB, Hardcore and some drum and bass (old skool stuff like rip groove). I wear white trainers and stripy shirts. Emos annoy me because they are pathetic attention seekers.

So that makes me a chav automatically, even though i dont drive like a twat, i have a job, i dont go to/arrange organised fights and i dont get drunk in parks at 17.

i dont class you as a chav :homme:

i just class them as people walking around thinking their it, shouting abuse and starting on people for no reason. spiting on cars smashing wing mirrors off (not saying everyone who smashes wing mirrors off must be a chav) then when you grab them to give them a bollocking they cry. then next thing you know their mammy and daddy are at your door! :A:

Chav's are normally people who are different to themselves... That's how and why I think a lot of people class them.
