Ive got a new gear knob to fit to my east coast, ive had a go at removing the old one but it really wont budge. Shoud it just unscrew or is is screwed on?

Cheers.

Big yellow bastid yeah? I removed mine last week, you have to saw down to the metal, and then stop, all the way round then pull it off which takes ages. Try and use a decent sized saw, i used a big toothy thing and cut my thumb open spraying blood all over my head unit lol

im afraid its a bitch of a job mate. You can saw/pull the knob off. Then you have to saw the black bit off that holds up the gaiter. Theres then a white bit the black gaiter holder slots onto but i couldnt be fooked to take that bit off as the saw was huge and my thumb was bleeding everywhere at that point, so i filed it down a bit and put my sparco knob onto that, then pulled the gaiter over the bottom of the sparco knob.

Im just changing the knob so surely i should leave the black bit on the the gaitor can be pulled over it again when the knob has been put on?

You cant get a knob on, lol, without removing the black bit mate because its too wide

If you took the time you could saw it off in the right place to hold the gaitor up, but then the knob sits really high and that looks gay so its your choice, one or the other really.
