Was coming back from bristol yesterday evening with the missus's parents in a 04 Toyota Estate jobby. Got my balls crushed by her dad as he said he was doing 100mph and i shot past him doing way over 100, and its way to dangerous to do that kind of speed in my car... Especially with his daughter blah blah.

But i constantly look at my speedo as well as my mirrors and i never went over 90mph the whole journey... I maintained an average speed of 70-80mph the whole way back...

When overtaking my speedo said 90... his said 100mph(when i over took him)

My missus agreed that i was only doing 90 too... so are my clocks fooked or what? because as far as im aware ive never ever been able to get more than 100 give or take out of it when i push it to the limit!

Sorry for the random thread, just peed me off but i wasnt going to argue as i know what high speed crashes can come out like, especially in an older car.

12% give or take 1 or two mph at that kind of speed mate. And how the fook can he have a go at you if hes doing the same speeds basically?

About 10%..

100 - 90
90 - 81
80 - 72
70 - 63
60 - 54
50 - 45
40 - 36
30 - 27
20 - 18
10 - 9

ROUGHLY

He was just scared i guess, aparently both of them were worried, as im an inexperienced driver and have a french car... Though im one of the mature drivers IMO. Not too stupid and have learnt IMO when to make rash decisions, only thing i dont have is experience, but to be fair the motorway was quite clear.

why didn't you argue that your 1.1 can't even make 100mph with two people in it lol! let alone overtake a car at well over 100!

Ha, did also my girlfriend did aswell, but to be fair never had a problem with her parents they are really sound so i just decided to be mature and just agree.

Its going to be fun with me bombing up the motorway in a VTR soon isnt it (:.

May have the chance of a cheap cheap price on a MG ZR though, so even though i perfer a vtr i may have to take the MG...

dunno what they are worth or insurance is like but.. my mums hubby is planning on part x'in his 04 plate one for his 06/07 impreza... and i know hes guna only get like 1500 for the car... so hmmm i think thats rather good price to offer him :P.

One other thing though, speeding and big roads around Bristol dont mix, many many speed cameras and even more mobile vans. Not that i speed on the motorway anyway i cannae afford the fee lol

I wouldnt drive like that with my Girlfriend the car hey never mind.

Depends on your wheels really.

go grab a SatNav or GPS unit... it'll tell you the real speed then you can work out how many %'s its actually out.

Mine as it stands is 10% out so when my speedo says 60... im actually doing 54.

OO really never knew satnav can do that. I overtook around junction 15 anyway so few miles away from bristol before i hit speed to overtake.

I dont like to drive to fast because i personally dont trust 3 stud 13" wheels. Think 70-80 is about right. plus it was at a nice 3,800 revs at that speed so hopefully economical.

sounds like her dad was talking out of his ass.

if you actually were doing 100 then your speedo would read about 110. but he said he was doing 100 so if you were doing 110 say, then your speedo would have read 120 ish in a 1.1. i think not!

also if your speedo didnt go over 90, then you probly didnt go much over 80.

have that off him then sell it privately for more and buy a VTR job done!

about 25% less economical than what it could have done ;)

Lol yup, but meh got to bristol and back for no more than £10 fuel.

Also yeah i was thinking... get the MG... keep it for 6months to a year and sell it for double or so... They are quite popular with the chavs around here so would be easy to shift.
Only downfall is the 1.4 is like insurance group 9? Which takes the piss as the vtr has more balls and is less safe yet only group 7?

more desirable (for some weird reason :err:)

my speedo seems to be about 3.5% - 4% out at 100 mph plus, at 108mph on the clocks my gps read 104mph, not that i do that kind of speed often i must add.

Well thats promising, did a quote on direct line for the MG... they wont touch me, looks like im going to have to find some ncb off someone.

when working out the difference its easier to sit at an indicated 50. then measure the actual speed.

double the difference then BOOM drop da bomb...

...you have your percentage error

To save me starting another thread... maybe someone can help... Is it possible to switch ncb from one person to another... for example my dad has two policys each with a lot of years on... Neither policy is being used so could he offer the ncb to another person ie me? so that i can use it as well as being the main driver on the policy or would he have to be on the policy still?

Barry123
29th December 2006, 19:54
nope... it'd still be under his name and policy.

argh cheers mate. Cant get insurance ne cheaper than about £140 p/m on the ZR then. I can insure a VTR for just over £100 so you can see which is winning.
