All the saxo's on here or a vast majority of them all look the same?

I'm not fan of stupid bodykits and I'm no pioneer in the sytling world but after browsing a few threads all the cars are starting to look the same and everyone seems to have the same plans.

Sax P clones. are taking over...

Thought I'd share that with you I'm off to paint mine pink and convert it into a monster truck :)

There is a big time problem with people following the "in crowd" on this site. I purely style my saxo on how I like it. Like to think I pick things because I like them, not because its the "in" thing to do.

I agree with you people do seem to bow down to the opinions of others and its good that you are taking a different approach. I'll start to worry when you buy alfa headlights and a snake skin bonnet ;).

I think the creased tailgate is going to big in 2007 so many have tried it this year but have gone to far and written the car off completely less is more when it comes to creasing.

Too many sheep on this site, Not with just stlying cars.

I do what i want to my car. Too many people started to go dark on silver cars. So i put mine back to standard. It is annoying but its a car site for the same car. When people post with comments like k"remove the lexus" blah blah everyone agrees, No 1 can style the car themselfs. People get shit for what they have done they then go out and replace the part so they get good comments.

I do agree, but there are some very distictively different saxos on here - ones that spring to mind: Ads, DSH85, Certifiables (I HATE kit cars as a rule, but really love his one!) There are loads more I like too - so many on here!

I tried to be different with mine, and so far, I think it has worked ;), but as people have said already, individual taste over-rules looking different!

I think it’s also the fact that when you put pics of your car up to show people what you have done, 9 out of 10 of the replies will be, ITS SHIT or TAKE THIS THAT AND THE OTHER OFF.
I no every one is entitled to their opinion but no one likes to have their car slated.

So their maybe people with very different looking saxos but don’t post pics because of this, thus we only see the ones that have “accepted mods ".

Just my 2 pence!!!

My car used to be kitted (what allot of people hate), nobody got agressive like that with me.. most were very nice to be honest.

Its all about looking different and trying to get and do mods other people havent done or thought of! When people copy you and try make theirs look the same just remember that imitation is the biggest form of flattery.

ets2k9
30th December 2006, 18:08
Yes i got bad rep from someone (you can remain nameless here) in a thread because I said there are too many cars on here that are Lowered 40mm spax, smoked lights, bmc induction kit, bee sting aerial and a magnex exhaust... These are the people 9 times out of 10 that will slag off things thats not sax-p popular like lexus lights...

If you change the BMC for a Raceland and ditched the beesting then thats my car....thats quite Ironic but I think people go down that route as they have proven performance gains.

I'm on about the exterior more than the engine side of things but you do have a valid point.

Cloud you are quite well known on the site so they aint gona be nasty, if you was a complete newbie with a toatly kitted car and saw some of the comments you mayb put off, im not saying evry one is, just might be!

I am doing my car as i want it to look!!! I am going with the euro look and trying out different things!! But at the moment mine is looking like Yorkie's from the front!!! Not a bad thing at all but its just you can only go so individual with lights and certain mods if you are going subtle!!!

Now i asked myself the other day.. Would simo's car have the same aura if it dident have a turbo and i knew.. I personally don't think it would..

The other thing I think too is that your own car is never as good as anyone elses! Despite what people say to you, you always see a saxo better than yours LOL. Some of the people I know off here will agree too!

You have a point if he posted it up in the newbie section without being the site owner etc...I think he would get some harsher criticism (rightly or wrongly).

I think if you have a turbo or supercharger you can do what you do what you like as people only worry about the engine.

Yeah ive noticed that a lot of cars look similar, or a lot of people advise to do the same mods to newbie's cars. Eg lose lexus lights, lower it, magnex, VTS wheels etc.
also smoked lights (jewel rears) i think are pushed down some peoples throats as well instead of their current lexus lights.
As people keep saying, each to their own, its your car, do what you want to it, not what people on a forum are telling you (unless of course, its technical help lol)

Luke
30th December 2006, 18:45
At the end of the day, it's up to you how you style your car and most people do follow each other. However, there is a few unique ones out there including DSH, Mikes, Willsys, Yatesy and Adsayer. I do agree that there is a lot of cars out there that are 'very' similar on here.

I'd never follow other people in modifying my car as I want to look how I want and mine is quite unique because it's still standard looking ;). One thing I do hate everytime you post a picture of your car is - 'It needs lowering'. It's up to you at the end the day, I like the standard ride height.

James
30th December 2006, 18:49
To be honest.. im sick of styling now. I've been through more front bumpers than the amount of times i've cooked for myself. I just want a fast saxo now... Yes it's nice to have a good looking car.. but the novelty will ware off.

Tim_W
30th December 2006, 18:55
I think there is a valid point to this thread. To be quite honest i am not a big fan of big body kits either. There is however a way of telling people what is wrong with their car in a 'constructive' way rather than saying 'to be honest mate your car's shit' or 'ditch the lex arse lights' etc. I noticed the ammount of flak the VTR Kid picked up for his car. Even though i wasn't a fan of the styling, by the end of it all i felt sorry for the guy, i truly did. Those of you who openly tore strips off him and slagged off his car in such a cruel way should be ashamed of yourselves. No wonder people are shit scared of attempting to mod their car's when they see what happens to guys like the VTR Kid.
This is why we are getting the 'sheep' syndrome. Its all well and good saying 'if you like it thats all that matters' because it doesnt make the car any easier to drive after the majority of the forum have slagged it off. Imagine for a moment what it would feel like driving down the road in car that a lot of 'popular' people on a 'saxo' forum have said is 'shit'. No matter how much you liked it to start with you will soon feel everyone is watching you, thinking its shit and begin to dislike it. So how about people try to be a bit more kind and start offering some constructive criticism if people ask for advice or how about not criticise at all if they don't ? After all we are here to share our cars with other like minded fans of Saxo's. We dont come here to have our pride and joy's slagged off just for the sake of it.

If your going to leave me negative rep for this have the decency to leave a valid comment and your name rather than just calling me a twat, thank you.

Tim you've hit the nail on the head..... Unfortunatly... This isn't the first time this topic has come up on here or at meets, and as well said as your speech was, it won't change anything, and their is probably someone slagging off someones car right now, and as you rightly pointed out that is why alot of saxos look the same.

MikeCracknell

I gotta admit, If I done something to my saxo and thought I would get slated for it I woudltn post it purley because of the hassle that would come along with it.
It shouldnt be like that, IF I wanted something on my car I should be able to do it.
People have their rights to say, not keen on that or this etc BUT to say its shite etc is just inconsderate.
Perfect example is the Kitted corsa thread that was in the photo section.

Scott
30th December 2006, 19:17
On topic there has been a major shift on all the forums i frequent, even local car cruise forums are shifting away from lairy cars.

However how feelings towards cars is shown has changed to, people are now very direct because they can be over the internet and not say or see someone face so you can be as brutal as you like, its a tough one to stamp out as people are entitled to an opinion. However i will be raising this issue with the mods about how opinions are levelled on here. Tough to police though

craig180
30th December 2006, 19:39
Agree with Tim 100%.

There is only a certain amount you can do to a saxo witout going down the full custom route. At the end of the day there are 1000s of saxo on the roads in the UK so some are bound to look the same.

I know some people do follow trends, and to a certain extent so do I, but it's all about modding your own car to your own style so if somebody wants to drive around in a standard height car, let them. If someone else wants an OTT bodykitted car then lety them!

There are 100s of excellent examples of modded/standard style cars on this site and each and every one of them has the owners stamp on it. So there!

I agree eventually your limited to what you can do with out going crazy but I do think we have a "paint by numbers" thing going on.

I also think more constructive criticism is called for but dont know how you would go about this is a "mod" sense but maybe cutting out the 5 pages of "its shit" in threads would be a start.

Agree again! I almost fell asleep reading through some of the drivvel in this thread (some by an ad???). Would be a good idea if some posts were deleted;)

As for the paint by numbers thing, it's always been with us. Look at lexus lights, we all had them at one point. M3 mirrors etc???

ive never had lexus, or m3 mirrors, when i got my vtr, i just wanted it lowered, that was it, i got some vts wheels cheap and left it at that, then seen some lights, i would of done that no matter what anyone said to me, this subtle approach wasnt backed up by everyone bout 2 years ago when i first got the vtr, there were miles more on here with kits and all the pics were of kitted saxos

Ok maybe bad examples! But this whole "trend" thing has always been around. Not just with the saxo scene but others as well!

Look at the Ford Cosworth scene for example. I can guarantee you if you were to look at 2 modified Sierras, 90% of the mods will be the same

mattc

I like body kits. Not the stick on pritstik ones you get out of kellogs boxes.... but being from essex the car modding scene is very big here, and i've seen some cars with kits on and are far from standard that would make alot of people on here 'think' "ye thats quite nice".... wouldent expect them to say it out loud tho (type it out loud).

Not just the sierras, i bet 90% of all cossies have the same engine mods and body tweaks. Same goes for evos and scoobies - how many blue and gold scoobies are there? Unless you have serious money and the balls to do something really different (and be prepared for the inevitable backlash) then most people will mod their cars the same.

Go onto any forum and ask someone why did you fit x, y and z to your car and the answer will be "to make it different" and in truth it looks the same as most of the other cars on the forum.

Personally i think the saxo looks best with simple subtle body mods which don't cost the earth and look good. Hence why lots of people do the same.
