Ad-aware for spyware
Registry Mechanic - Cleans the registry
Disk Fragment - Manages files for quicker access
Zone alarm pro. - Firewall
Also a great tip wheich not many people know for cleaning out crap is:
Start > Run > type: msconfig > select 'startup tab'
This displays a list of all programs whioch are loaded into the RAM when you start windows and run in the background. This normally includes virus's etc. Simply untick all you dont want and click apply and exit and it will restart windows and ull notice a difference in loading times straight away :)
Used all those for ages never haad any problems. NEVER use Norton.

As you can see, i only have a few ticked which are essentuial windows load up files ..... if all are ticked ull notice your pc running slowwwwww
Also, it saves you doing CTRL , ALT AND DEL and ending programs as your disabling them perminantly :)
If you do this and then find something doesnt work that you need, go back into the msconfig utility and tick it again its that simple. You cant fuck anything up mate, windows will prompt you if it requires a file your trying to untick

Thats not the best idea but certainly does get you out some tricky situations! What i reccomend also is buy a second hard drive, install windows to the C: and store all games, data, mp3's etc on the second Hard Drive. That way you get no shit on your pc and it wont effect the quality of performance within windows. Also if you ever do need to reformat your pc you still have everything saved without worrying about CD's or losing work!
Ive been doing it for years so all is good. You can buy HUGE hard drives now for pennies! 180GB will only set you back around £48.

Just move anything out that your sure of, e.g windows media player, itunes.exe things like that you recognise that are not vital...
There is a massive guide on pcstats.com about this

When you say "clean it up", what do you mean? As in remove temporary internet files, cookies, etc... or have it virus checked/protected?
I use this to remove unwanted information...
CCleaner - Crap Cleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/)
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)
And I use this as my virus software...
AVG - Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.4 (http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html)
AVG Free Edition is the well-known antivirus protection tool. AVG Free is available free of charge to home users for the life of the product.
