Towing Advise

Hi All,

I have a question for everyone i'm going to pick up a cheap car just for the engine it has some damage to it but it can he towed so i'm going to tow it back to mine using a tow BAR not rope but want to know if a copper see's me will i get done? I'm full comp on my car and the other car has now tax or MOT i have read on a website that i should be okay but just wanted to know if anyone has first hand experiance?

I think you should be ok, Ive never had any problems towing cars.

You will be fine, as long as the car towing is legal.

The car being towed will be classed as a trailer, much the same as you dont need tax or anything for a trailer/caravan

i'd have thought you would be ok.

i know you said you're using a tow bar so this wont affect you, but am i right in thinking it's now illegal to tow using a rope?

Yeah its now illigal to use a tow rope and my car is all legal so looks like i'll be okies cheers lads!!

I've done that before and was passed by policecars without incident

make sure you use a sign saying towing and you lights are visible. the police like visible lights.

you're probably aware anyway, but following on from what bensax says...don't have your hazzards on. many people do but it's illegal when towing.

should be ok mate. i was in the same boat one day. i was havin our grass track nova towed one day, never had mot, insurance or road legal. we couldnt get our trailer as it had been taken else where, our event had been cut short so, we wanted to take it away instead of leaving it over the weekend at the event. just had it towed with a tow bar home. passed a few police cars and they never said anything, stood out like a saw thumb as well, bright yellow with loads of stickers and loads of dents everywhere lol
