Do you think i will see a big difference in game upgrading from 1GB of DDR400 to 2GB ? I can pick some up for about £60 but dont want to bother if it wont increase performance noticably.
PC spec:
Athlon64 3800+
1GB DDR400
Geforce 7900GS 256 DDR3
I mainly play simulation games and Action like Call Of Duty 2 , Flight simulators etc .... Main game is Flight Sim x which runs at a shocking 20FPS even on my machine which is upto date!
I shoulds know this being an IT Technician but ive never had over 1GB RAM so not sure if doubling it will make a huge difference or not

it wont help to much imo as you have a powerful computer as it is, but it will make general things faster. ie loading programs like photoshop etc.

You would be better off getting a better Graphics Card mate then upping
your RAM to 2GB. 1GB should be fine for the time being. If you have 512mb
like me then I would advise upping to 1GB.
The Graphics Card may work out more expensive but if its games you want
your machine for then that will be the better option.
Look for the more high end 256mb GFX cards, but make sure you use the
best drivers too as this is another thing people forget!

Want trhe difference purely for gaming as windows itself and photoshop etc are fast as it is.
I noticed some games like Flight Sim x and Splinter Cell double agent require a minimum of 1GB RAM now shocking ... so i only have minimum spec but yer most games i can run on full graphics without 2 much trouble
And Geforce 7900GS is upto date only got it a month ago 7900 series is very highly rated!

Well... being a champ man player i can only recomend that you get as much ram as possible, that game eats ram,
However if you dont play those sort of games with huge databases wont see much of a difference but u can never have too much ram m8

ram is like a table so the more ram the bigger table so the more things you can get on the table so the more things you can run.. but if you not got abig enuff table to put all your things on it gets full so you cant put not more stuff on . hope that makes things clearer

That is basically the card i have but a slightly better chipset (GT instead of GS makes about 50MHZ memory clock difference) plus ive overclocked it abit anywho ;)

Just do your homework mate. I used to have a 256 card which cost me £130 quid... I got a whole new computer built up and believe it or not upgraded to a 128mb card. Reason being the 128mb card runs way better than the 256 a lot faster n so on. so its not all about the megabite. As said above you can NEVER have enough ram or enough hdd space. Get your computer some good cooling equipment, excellent graphics card, 2gb ram and you will have a nice setup to last you many years.

it wont last many years be lucky to last this year LOL but i know what you mean...
All i wanted to know was if 2GB worth of ram in games differs alot to that of 1GB ... i only just got my graphics card so cant efford another

Again wont make a difference, unless you are loading many big programs simultaenously(sp). 1GB is fine normally. I would upgrade your graphics card and whats your soundcard like? Is it built in to the motherboard or stand-alone?
DarylVTR

Philips Aurilium which is an external USB sound card

Thats good, as long as its not built in, they are not great for sound effects. Personally though go for a new graphics card thats got quite alot of RAM built in, that should help :)

why is everyone against my graphics card? LOL The 7900GS is high spec, It runs most games on top settings! Just not some of the newest newest ones :)
If you check link out above mate with comparisons on between the GS / GT / GTX it is minimal. I didnt go cheap on the graphics card it cost me £140 only a month ago and it was brand new out!

basically mate the answer you are looking for is........... yes it will make a difference to ur computer! by how much depends on alot of factors, the game, whether the ram is DDR2 or DDR? which is it?
if i had the choice i would go for it!

Your Graphics Card is a new one (geforce 7 I believe) but its not one of the
performance models mate!
If you got a top spec Geforce 6 I bet it would outperform your Geforce GS.
If you want a gaming spec PC then its all about the GFX from my past experiance.
My PC is ancient now:
1.4ghz AMD
512mb RAM
but it has a 128mb Geforce 5 - this is why I can play Halflife 2 and Quake 4
on decent settings and still get 30/40fps.
